This didn't work very well, either.

As I mentioned in a previous message, this client doesn't know anything about FTN kludges (it is an NNTP client). I'm almost certain it read the "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=KOI8R" kludge that you sent along with this message (even though you had a CP866 Fidonet FTN kludge).

I wonder if the CP866 to KOI8R translation didn't work?

That didn't work, either. It seems iconv most likely doesn't know what to do with it, because it's showing here as UTF-8. :(

Strange. As is 'file' shows it as 'ISO-8859 text' which I know is
wrong. Forcing it using 'iconv -f koi8-r' shows it as 'Unicode text,
UTF-8 text' and the line in question becomes; Сильный, как бык, умный,
как трактор. Definetly more evidence in favour of setting all output
to utf-8 given all the 8-bit character confusion and corruption. I
believe I said that at the start of this particular thread.

You did indeed say that at the start of the thread, and I tend to agree. :)

As the Highlander once said, there can be only one, and in this case it is utf-8.

Wow. Now that reference was a blast from the past. It's been awhile since I've heard that one, and remember watching that show quite a bit as a kid. ;)

By the way, if you hadn't noticed in my last couple of messages, it looks like nano does recognize " > " and will re-wrap it properly. I kind of like the small indention, as it makes it a bit easier on the eyes.

    Okay.

I suppose that's why the space before the quote character isn't 'normal'. When you second-level quote it now you have the above result, instead of this:

Change it again when you're bored.

Not really bored ... yet ... but what the heck. At my age, and

Yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep yourself interested in these hobbies. In my case, when development has slowed, and meaningful conversation has slowed.. you have to go out of your way to try to talk about something somewhat interesting. Honestly, quote characters aren't all that interesting, but desparate times require desparate measures, you know?

    Hm. Now what?

We could always keep attempting to break iconv..? ;)
