I've posted this on fsxNet BBS also, but have not seen any responses. So thought I would post it here also since it is specific to synchronet configuration.
I'm working on configuring my bbs which uses synchronet, to receive
usenet groups from fsxNet.
Avon has configured my access. I can commuicate with areafix and add/remove groups.
I just cannot seem to get the message area/sub-boards/echolist all configured, correctly :-(
Would love some assistance. Maybe sample sbbsecho.ini examples, etc.
to be able to pull in the usenet groups.

How so?
I wasn't aware that there are usenet groups on fsxNet. Are you sure about that?
Also, sbbsecho.ini doesn't include any information about message areas (i.e. echoes or sub-boards).I think my "newbie" is showing here. I should not have been talking about sbbsecho.ini, but how to
<sbbs internal code> <FTN echo tag> <link(s)>
ALT.BBS ALT.BBS 21:1/10
BBS.ADS ALT.BBS.ADS 21:1/10
ALLSYSOP ALT.BBS.ALLSYSOP 21:1/10
COBOL COMP.LANG.COBOL 21:1/10
COMP.TI COMP.SYS.TI 21:1/10

I was manually importing a list, and trying to create sub boards for the newsgroups.

I suspect maybe you are missing the dots '.' in the second column.
I can confirm I am receiving messages in the above echos, that I can post, and that I will sometimes receive responses.
It is working. The area.bbs was a big part of getting things connected.
But for unknown reason in my sbbsecho.ini binkppoll was NOT set to true.
So I wasn't pulling my messages that were being HELD.
I also figured out it seems the internal name in areas.bbs is limited to
19 characters (in my config). So the message area has the internal name
of UN_ so that means I only have 16 characters for the rest of the internal name in my areas BBS.
Sample from my areas.bbs
UN_COMPUNIXMISC COMP.UNIX.MISC 21:1/10
UN_COMPUNIXPROGRAMM COMP.UNIX.PROGRAMMER 21:1/10
UN_COMPUNIXQUESTION COMP.UNIX.QUESTIONS 21:1/10
If there is a way to increase the length of the internal names, let me know. Maybe I will need to abbreviate the group i.e. C for COMP U for Unix
This is great! Thank you so much.

Import what kind of list (i.e. what filename or format)? Import into what program?
But for unknown reason in my sbbsecho.ini binkppoll was NOT set to true. So I wasn't pulling my messages that were being HELD.
I *think* that one is set false via default and you have to set it to true if you are going to use binkit.

I *think* in the SCFG that my version comes with, the code for each individual message area is limited to 8. Of course, you also have the prefix from the message groups (what you have set to 'UN_') and I don't remember the size restriction on that one. I try to keep mine short and simple while being enough that I can remember which echo is which.
SBBS v3.19 and earlier versions are limited to 16 characters (total) for the internal codes, made up of up to 8 characters of code prefix and 8 characters of code suffix. These maximums were doubled in v3.20.
