Had a user indicate they could not figure out how to exit editor.

Went to user configuration, and selected No for external editor.

When trying to enter /? there was no response

E-mail (User name or number): amr Just went to next line (tried to cut-n-paste capture but didn't work above).

The /s command did work, but /? did not result in expected help menu.

Thanks for testing things on my BBS. But I actually had not encountered, it defaulting to fseditor. I'll try and create a new account and see if I
    have that issue.

In my sysop account, I have changed to non-external editor and it will not accept /? like 80% of the time, but 100% will accept /s on a blank line.

I think there's some confusion about what editor you're actually using. The internal line editor (not a full screen editor) displays the following banner when entering a message:

Enter message now (33000 lines max). Type /? on a new line for menu. ----+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--

If you're not seeing that, then you're not using the internal line editor, but rather a different editor. The internal line editor supports /? and /S commands.

fseditor.js displays "FSeditor" on the bottom line of the terminal when entering/editing a message and does *not* support /? or /S commands (it uses Ctrl-key combinations for these fucctions).

I've tested the /? with syncterm and ftelnet

The question is: using what editor? Not all editor recognize /? as a valid command. I don't think the terminal used makes any difference.

How would I determine this ?

Hitting Ctrl-Z (while not in an editor), toggles raw I/O mode. When entering a message in raw I/O mode, you get an introduction text like this:
Raw message input (2673000 bytes max). Ctrl-Z to save, Ctrl-C to abort.

I was connected via SyncTerm I believe, if

I doubt the terminal is a factor.

The problem appears to be that if a new users selects to change their default editor, it's using the old default to send a message to the
    sysop. It's still using FSEditor.

Ah, that's good to know. I didn't even know that FSEditor supports/recognizes the '/s' command. I'll have to try that.

Once you get into the BBS and then send a message, then you get the
internal editor. Seems like a bug to me in that the login process isn't re-reading the editor if it's changed. I would file a git bug report.

A 'gitlab issue'. There's actually no such thing as a 'git bug report'. :-)

I'll see if I can reproduce this.
    /s
    /s
hmm... /s doesn't seem to save and exit in FSeditor (as I expected), as was being reported by amessyroom. Are you sure that's what's going on?

I'm seeing the above header. The wiki.js instance I setup to put the screen captures i died; I'm runnig it in a tmux session so hopefully it will stay online; so the previous url will let you see my screen captures

    http://toolazy.synchro.net:3333/en/bbs/non-external-editor

    Here it is again.

Okay, yup, that's the internal/line editor.

The '/?' command in the internal editor display the contents of your "editor" menu/display file (by default, from the text/menu directory).

What are the contents of your text/menu/editor.asc file? Do you have any other editor.* files in the text directory tree? Have you created or edited any of these files?

Nelgin has identified another issue. That if you login as a new user. Change external editor to None; and proceed to do feedback as new user requiremet is uses FSEDITor overriding the user selected option.

That issue has been fixed in Git as of today.

if you look at his screenshot you will see that he's turning on raw mode so you were right about that.

and he's typing /? test /s when it says ctrl-z to save

Um, no, he did both ways (raw mode and the internal/line editor). There's something else up with why his editor.* file isn't being displayed by the /? command in the built-in editor.
Here are timestamps and contents of editor.asc Too my knowledge they have not been modified.

well i made an account on his bbs and then switched and it's showing it
this is the built in editor.

Thanks for testing on the bbs. It has worked for me. But about 80% of the time /? will not work where /s does work.

I got your feedback regarding error in a logon script. I'll investigate that issue. Don't know if it is related, but I call a shell script that makes the

Thanks for testing on the bbs. It has worked for me. But about 80% of the ti /? will not work where /s does work.

Are you maybe hitting a space after /? and before hitting the enter key? What about other commands (e.g. /l, /abt) - are you seeing any weird behavior with them?

"/s " (space after /s) also does not work, so I'm really not sure what you're doing different from others.

I think you must be using an older version of DDLoginMatrix. I remember seeing that at one point and fixing it; and I don't get that error when logging into my BBS as guest.

You can download the latest version from this page: http://www.digitaldistortionbbs.com/?page=002-files.xjs&dir=bbsfile_sync_js

One of the benefits of using the built-in file area access in the SBBS v3.20a web server is shorter URLs, e.g.
    https://vert.synchro.net/files/Main/SBBS_3RD/DDLM_126.zip

and with ctrl/web_alias.ini, you can make them even shorter if you like.

well i did it a bunch of times and it was pulling up the help menu.

I created an account on his board too and the /? menu in the internal editor wokred for me too, every time.

I was able to reproduce the issue on your BBS by switching your "Default" command shell (not the normal default, the Sychronet Classic Shell, but something you created apparently).

My guess is that you have a sub-directory of text/menu for your shell's menus and you're setting the global menu directory (PCMS global variable or JS bbs object property) in your shell to that directory, but you don't have a copy of editor.* in that directory.

You need to copy all the menu files to your custom sub-directory if you're going to be globally changing the menu directory in your shell.

BTW, a recent commit to the sbbs git repo master branch (where v3.20a currently lives), would log an error in this condition, giving you (the sysop) a good indication of where the problem is. Try upgrading your copy of v3.20a to the latest first.
