Wow. I didn't know this existed. But, why am I surprised? There is
always a place somewhere for any hobby.
Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory would love railpictures.net. :-)

awesome. I've probbaly read about it all in Railfan and Railroad then.
I'm more of an eastern area railfan though, Canada and of course US
roads from New york to Florida... I drive to florida every 2 years for disney, take the kids and well, i take photos of shortlines and other stuff en-route when it 'happenes'. Last trip amongst many others I
managed to catch the Beech Mountain RR
If you're going to Florida for Dizzy World - have you considered the
"Auto Train"? Board you and your tribe w/auto in Lorton, VA (Washington D.C. area) and ride the 18 hours to Orlando. Get the kids worn out with Mickey Mouse then railfan on the way home.

We're Canadian. So it isn't as advantageous for us.
I also like the drive and seeing stuff, and eating stuff (ie:fried
catfish , biscuits and gravy, or WAFFLE HOUSE, etc).
Next time i'm trying COOK OUT
cracker barrel is a dream.... if we had one here in Canada.. we don't
plus i like finding all kinds of new stuff.
Do tell thoug, what's the cost of the auto train and where is nearest terminal to Toronto we could board? Do they take pickup trucks too?
If I was driving from Tronna and rail-fanning/exploring I'd head for Windsor, jump across the Ambassador Bridge and head south in I-75 all
the way to Florida through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and into Florida.

Going to be honest i'm browsing / using FIDONET on a 486 laptop with no ethernet or tcp/ip, just a dial up modem... on a BBS
i'll look it up but I wanted an approximate cost anyway :) it's not
really an advantage to go to VA then take auto train to florida..
probably add to the journey time
i75 route i did once... its' OK - notas many shortlines as there are on
my preferred route. I prefer 90/79/19/77/81/77/26/95.
there's a ton of shortlines on the other route and I still hacven't got them all after 7 trips.

Unless you're moving huge files or doing graphics intensive browser
pages dial-up is livable. And while you're on-line no telemarketers
I mostly do telnet to a BBS. The only browser BBS I've found that works well is http://bbs.fidosysop.org/default.htm even if the SysOp is a wing-nut.

Nothing in here for donkey's years then a flood of four posts. WOW!

time to bring this back. Just imagine, you're on FIDONET surely there's some of the 1990's out there still too that we can go see. S-2's or alcos...

i'm on dark realms in canada using a dial up modem.. one of the last...
this board also has telnet/internet (web based) options too. I prefer
the reall yold school way.. this computer is so old it doesn't have ethernet.
(i could add it)
Before I pulled my landline, I thought about hooking up an old machine
and trying that... I guess I could do some sort of coupler to VOIP
or something - not sure that would even work... :-)
