i am a rail fan too i live next to a main rail line UP gois by my house it is about 300 feet from the house i see tones of trains i have see the changler go by the house and we took photos of the train i live on the i80 east wast main line of the track i rail fan every day..is fun...

I'm more of a rail riding fan, I can't wait to go on a cross country
trip in one of Amtrack's roomette trains. I don't think you can go all
the way from where I'm located (NW PA), but at least some of the way.

Only thing is it costs as much as flying, but takes longer. For me
that's OK, I love to watch the scenery and relax.

I used to work at a plant where they manufactured locomotives, it was
very interesting.
