• Is Putin getting a bit desperate?

Putin is now claiming that the UK and France are going to give nuclear bombs to Ukraine.

A bit of a strange story, especially considering that neither country has bombs that can be delivered "just like that." The UK only has nuclear weapons that can be launched from submarines, and France also has such nuclear weapons and has weapons that can only be delivered by aircraft, which Ukraine doesn't have.

But then you're taking Putin's message far too seriously.

Putin is trying to frighten his people. He wants more support for the war in Ukraine, and to do so, he has to portray the West as the scary enemy.

Russia still doesn't know why it's waging war in Ukraine. There's no broadly shared goal for the Russian people. That makes supporting this war difficult, especially as things get increasingly difficult for Russia.

The Russians are starting to feel the pain of the war, and that, combined with not knowing why they're actually waging war, is a bad combination. Putin senses he has to do something to get his people somewhat enthusiastic about the slaughter in Ukraine. Otherwise, they might well revolt against his regime.

Ukraine should have at least 1 nuclear weapon, they were told to get rid of their nuclear weapons. But, its leading to a costly war with Russia now.
