• Why Greenland?

From Joseph Pereira@1:103/705 to All on Wed Jan 14 06:09:18 2026

According to Trump, it's because US security is at stake. That's utter nonsense, because the US can place as many military bases in Greenland as it wants. The 1952 treaty is clear about this.

Oil then? No, it's not oil either.

In this case, it's rare earth metals and uranium.

These are present in abundant quantities in Greenland.

However, there are three major problems.

    1. The climate. It's a very cold and unforgiving environment.

    2. The mineral resources are found in layers of soil that are very labor-intensive. The combination of certain metals and rock types is remarkably unfavorable.

    3. There is absolutely no infrastructure. How can you possibly move enormous quantities of material across a country with no roads, no railways?

So, exploiting Greenland's resources is nothing more than a dream. More a matter of "I have something to say about it in theory" than "I actually get something out of it" in practice.
