But that's unpossible! Elon and his prodigies are all super smart and would never put up an insecure website where hackers could access the database behind it!

I'm less bothered by these mistakes than I am by the amount of money being wasted.

"Stolen" or "laundered", but not "wasted".

It displays a level of (in)competence that could become an expensive problem.

Mistakes like this can lead to a whole lot more money being wasted by/stolen from our government, and stolen from taxpayers directly. It has happened before.

It makes sense to be concerned about it, but nobody is perfect. There's no proven method to attaining government efficiency, so these guys are an inexperienced work crew, and there will be bumps in the road.

At least we don't have Chinese weather balloons hovering over our nuclear storage facilities anymore. If Trump had a magic wand, then of course things would so smoother.

If they were including forensic accountants and/or anyone familiar with the systems in question in their inqueries, they could make the group a lot
closer to perfect and experienced using proven methods of finding fraud.

As it is, they apparently are bumbling around and, from statements made by Musk, don't even have a clue about system default dates... something
someone who knows the system could clue them in on.

At least we don't have Chinese weather balloons hovering over our nuclear storage facilities anymore. If Trump had a magic wand, then of course things would so smoother.

That we know of. Remember, it came out that these balloons were
transitioning our skies during Trump's first term. He was just never told about them. The only reason we found out about them was because one came across on a perfectly clear day and citizens reported it.

Yeah, don't call it an audit. And certinly don't call it comprehensive.

COBOL is so 20th century, how would a bunch of 19-25 year olds know
    about it?

DOGE also had their web site defaced, that's also pretty 20th Century.

I expect that they won't make the same mistake twice. (Or at least, not 3 times.)

At least we don't have Chinese weather balloons hovering over our nuclea storage facilities anymore. If Trump had a magic wand, then of course th would so smoother.

The media mentioned that "these balloons have been flying around since Trump's administration," but I don't believe it, because the media would have been overjoyed with the opportunity to pin that on Trump, and it never happened.

    Indeed.

As it is, they apparently are bumbling around and, from statements made by Musk, don't even have a clue about system default dates... something someone who knows the system could clue them in on.

COBOL is so 20th century, how would a bunch of 19-25 year olds know
    about it?

I learned it as a 26 year old. If programmed correctly, it reads mostly
like written English. They should still be teaching it but are not. If
you can understand logic at all, you can get into the code and have at
least some idea as to what it is doing. And you can certainly identify
where it is looking at a field for a default date and treating it as null.

I doubt they are even looking at the code. That is probably a very 20th century expectation there.

In his pre-DOGE past, Elon has made some very idiotic and uninformed tweets about mainframes and COBOL that show he is not up to the task at hand.

DOGE also had their web site defaced, that's also pretty 20th Century.

Indeed it is. If I didn't bring that up here, I did on Dovenet.

The skies were transparent enough that day. :D

They were careful with it because they also didn't want to expose that it
had happened before under Biden's administration.
