Trump blasts EU regulators for targeting Meta, Apple and other US tech giants

    Date:
    Fri, 24 Jan 2025 11:02:12 +0000

    Description:
Trump brands EU fines as "taxation" in ongoing feud with the world's largest single market area.

    FULL STORY ======================================================================
    - Trump has hit out against EU fines against US companies
    - The new President has said that the fines are "a form of taxation"
    - Apple, Meta, and Google are all currently facing large EU fines

Following Meta CEO Mark Zuckerbergs plea to newly inaugurated President Trump to stop US companies from paying European Union fines , Trump has lashed out
at the bloc, branding the fines as a form of taxation.

Meta has faced $2.67 billion in General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
fines alone since 2022 for a number of reasons, including failing to ensure information security, not having a legal basis for data processing and
    general non-compliance with GDPR.

GDPR was introduced to the EU in 2018 and is designed to give EU citizens
more control over what data can be collected, who can process their data, and ensuring it remains secure when processed outside of the EU.

    Big complaints with the EU

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said (via Bloomberg ), These are American companies whether you like it or not. They shouldnt be
doing that. Thats, as far as Im concerned, a form of taxation. We have some very big complaints with the EU.

Many of the world's richest men and owners of tech conglomerates, including Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Tim Cook were in attendance at Trumps
inauguration, with all of the aforementioned donating seven figure sums to Trumps inauguration fund. Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter),
reportedly spent upwards of $277 million to help get Trump elected.

Apple, Meta, and Google have all faced large fines for violating EU
regulations in the past, with the European Commission today completing an initial probe into X with a fine in the million dollar region likely to be levied against the social media platform.

In 2023, Meta was hit by a $1.3 billion fine for transferring EU user data to the US. Google had to pay a $1.6 billion fine for anti-competitive policies
in 2019. Apple faced a $2 billion fine for abusing the app store to limit
music streaming services from competing with Apple Music.

All three companies are currently facing EUs Digital Markets Act investigations, with violations resulting in a fine as high as 10% of global annual revenue. It is worth noting that the US has no comprehensive federal data privacy regulation, with only 20 US states currently enforcing a state-level regulation for data protection.

He spoke to the forum over video conference. He's not over there, in the top secret room, discussing depopulation with Kristen Sinema and Bjorn Felten.

While I don't like big tech, I'll still defend Trump by pointing out that it's "American" companies who he's defending. But I disagree with him trying to interfere with the European Union. If these companies want to do business in other countries, then they shouldn't rely on Trump to hold their hand every step of the way.

IMHO, what it will wind up doing if Trump and/or the companies keep it up
will be causing a TikTok like situation where the EU tells them that if
they won't play by the rules they cannot do business in their countries.

There are already alternatives to Google, for example, that would probably
be willing to play by their rules and, if not, setting up a search engine
that will would not be that difficult.

And if that's the case, then they need to suck it up. Because if our president starts telling other countries what they can and can't do, then they will do the same thing to us (especially when/if another Biden is installed.)

Do they really upset anything though? Watch their voting habits. Fetterman is a cold-blooded killer who just voted against keeping babies alive who survive abortions.

He makes TV personalities have meltdowns, but he ultimately makes the rest of the Democrats happy.

Simena, in particular, voted with Republicans on something and then was famously confronted in a restroom by leftists. Some of their YT channels
make as much (or more) fun of her than Trump.

Former Senator Joe Manchin had a couple one-off votes with Republicans too, but when these "Democrat rebels" do this, I swear they're just trying to gain our trust. It's not working on me. We don't have any trojan horses working for us.

In Manchin's case, I am pretty sure that he was trying to do what the
people of WVa wanted, which was not what his party wanted. I suspect that Simena was doing the same for her state. Fetterman, for whatever reason, is more outspoken about not wanting to follow the party blindly and wanting to
do what is good for PA.

I have not paid close enough attention lately to see if he is really going against the party or just saying so.

I've dug up Machin and Sinema's voting records before, and I was not able to find a time when they voted in favor of Republican-sponsored legislation.

The AP backs me up on this, at least as of 2021. https://apnews.com/article/ap-fact-check-voting-rights-government-and-politics- c65d4424c200ede56fc31db42e28e084

They call themselves "bipartisan" because technically they have voted on things that rinos have voted in favor of, like "Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act."
    https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/3684

Check that one out. Manchin and Sinema both voted Yay just like all the other Democrats (and the known rinos.)

They just hold out on the other Democrats to flex their muscles. They make them sweat a little, and then they vote precisely how George Soros wants. (They probably request gold bars during that time.)

The AP might back you up, but the die-hard Ds won't. Like I said, Sinema
in particular is a target of their ire. Manchin has also been in the past.
You may need to go back and look into Trump's first term to find the reasons, but they are there.
