I concur. That's the most likely reason.

However, it's usually some crypto trader or similar who is the hijacker. It has happened to me a couple of times that a friend suddenly starts DMing me with recommendations for all kinds of crazy stuff.

Reasonably easy to recognize. Unless you live in a paranoia bubble where everyone from the Deep State is after you.

I've never seen anyone doing it for bot activities, though. Not much money to make there.

It was definitely facebook.com. I don't think there was anything posted at all. I didn't have any friends added, so I had no audience to speak to anyway. I searched for some people, but didn't send any friend requests.

They are probably concerned those accounts are not real people and will later start spamming public groups, etc. I am in a few public groups and that happens regularly. People who appear to have no friends will start spamming the group.

Well, there are ways you could get on their radar... they think you were at 1/6 would be one. If you are Tulsi Gabbard, you can get put on a suspicious flyer list just by being critical of Kamala Harris in public.
