Here they love this because when you work, you're contributing to the national pension fund. You can take it as early as 55, but then you are penalized.

The youngest for Social Security here is 62.
But, if you take it as 62 whatever your retirement income is locked at that amount, which is generally one half of what one would get at 65/66.
Private retirements are different. Such as retiring from Company X after so many years, etc.

Of course, but because all contribute when they have income, those without means are fully covered.

Too many down south of the border here are takers and contribute
    nothing.
There are all sorts federal/state "safety nets" that have become
    hammocks instead.
The US government provided $300 a week for each person who wasn't
working due to layoffs, firing, quitting, due to Covid. Those people refused work
since they were making more from unemployment benefits than a pay cheque.
This created a worker shortage and companies are begging for employees with hiring bonuses, more pay, etc. But many would rather lay in that hammock then get up and go to work since they are sometimes making more by not working.
Not so long ago "not hiring" signs were common in WV. Today "now
hiring" signs are everywhere. With few takers.

Sounds all too familiar to my observartions here in Canada -- I like that: turning safety nerts into hammocks. That's excactly it here, too.

Now, with covid funding of ~$2,000/month going to those out of work, there's little incentive to drag one's lazy no work ethic arse up & out to an actuyal job.

Goofy. I'd rather turn down a free $2K(of publicly generated monies) to work for $1,900

I've done it, too. . . I'm on disability, so quite grtateful for hat net, especially as emplyers often have a thing against hiring the disabled, even though I cvompete fairly. When I apply for a job, I'll be doing it better than the rest, usually by a long shot. I don't seek short cuts or hammocks.

Now I just need to figure out how to communicate this to employers in the language & manner they expect/want. But the rules for resumes, cover letters & interviews change by the week.

You may quote me on that. I stole it from Ronald Reagan. :)

    Sad but true.
And there are people who now expect and demand that.

especially as emplyers often have a thing against hiring the disabled,

Thief!! That's how you became moderator <g,d,r>.

And there are people who now expect and demand that.

They came into this world as naked and broke as you and I did, and
they are going out the same way.

    disability.

I resemble that remark...yet specifics may be debatable. <G>

I liked Ronnie, but I didn't actually know him, of course. I saw the crap Iraq pulled on you in '79, & Carter's lameduck responses to it.

Even before November-1980's election, Everyone, including Iraq, knew they were going to be dead meat if they didn't shit it down & return the hostage American journalists, unharmed.

I can't recall as I was young(12) & not that focused(Autistic), did they return the hostages prior to Reagan officially entering the White House?

Yup, they see the news from Canada. Tghe whole point of it in the beginning, here, was to allow everyone(or as manty as possible) to hunker down at home & stop being potential spreaders, but Canada's socierty doesn't want people losing their homes over it, so the $2K was intended to pro0vide at leastr some income to cover rent/mortgage/etc.

But that lovfely net gor cut up & hung up on the porches. . . & it's now been a couple years of "hammock time"

I can't wait to use that Reagan quote on Facebook, & see how quickly I lose friends! *LOL* I don't want those kind of people in association with me or my name. Ditto for those who have a bigoted anti towards Obama(I thought he was mainly useless, IN HIS JOB, & that has nothing to do with melanin levels)

I have no time or patience for bigotry in any form.

I'll discuss the issues relating to such from either side of things, because it's all about facts vs facts vs assumptions vs opinions.

Or I play accuradio or Youtube in the background & learn things, like how some people want to get their 10,000 steps a day in without actually walking, so they put their Fitbit into a rolled-up double sock & run it in the dryer for a while.

especially as emplyers often have a thing against hiring the disabled,

Everyone has special skills and talents regardless of their disability.

Of course, but not every emplyer of a ceretyain generation is open to learning or understanding this. Our new person in charge of our new federal law that is our version of your ADA has as his fgirsrt task, opening up employers to new ideas to include disabled workers where they provide good value (Maybe you have one applicant to a fulltime position who can only work 4-hour shifts, so why not pair them up with someonbe else(even if disabled) to fill the 8-hour time slot. & stop forcing everythig to be "full time, period."

I never apply for any job I can't do better than the rest of the applicants, even if I am limited in sopme ways by only having partial use of my limbs.

Yes, I can do better than most, even though I'm one-handed, & sitting down!

There's a saying about expectations/good intentions and results not being the same that I can't recall right now.

The only one I know is "expectations are just premeditated resentments."

Someone in a wheelchair can work as a receptionist as well as someone who is fully abled for example.

My view is we're even BETTER. I had a poster made up listing 15 major points why, but it got lost in the 20 years since creating it & trying to retrieve it, so I'm working on a new one. Things have changed, apparently, & some of my ways of wording things aren't considered politic or tactful now. Fair enough, back to square one.

Apparently I'm outdated & useless now that I'm over 50! Hah! We'll see! *LOL*
