I like this better than the last kv-6.16.0 root/boot, mpstly because of gpm mouse on the console. Also note the brand spanking new gcc.

I considered doing the same but opted out for 6.15.9 due to the mouse thingy. It works, and probably is safer for cut n' pasting on the commandline, but I was more annoyed than having a secure feeling.

A recent 15.1.1 snapshot also works.

I decided to follow your lead and get used to the mouse cut `n paste commandline thingy. I liken it to 'a chamber of sober second thought' nothing like the Canadian Senate but I couldn't come up with anything better at the moment.

The above kernel took around 38 minutes, building and packaging (tar.xz), on a 16 penguin EPYC processor. The fastest I currently have - a 16 penguin Ryzen 7 - accomplished the same task in roughly 33 minutes.

I have moved everything upto 6.16.1 now as well. That cut 'n paste thing kind of boggles my muscle memory but I'm getting used to it.. ;)

I haven't timed it but I think it takes about the same here. My desktop has just two penguins and my BBS machine and laptop have four. I'll get upgraded here at some point!

Well put. The above speaks to me.

BBS machine and laptop have four.

I've forgotten about the laptop. It also has four. I haven't used it for awhile and probably should get it up to speed. I am not fond of laptops but in this case it makes a good platform for testing mobile gps apps that I haven't played with in quite some time now. Not sure why that is given all the past work I put into it.

I'll get upgraded here at some point!

Me too. I seriously doubt it'll be a threadripper or anything in that class but I think I've seen enough of mini-PCs and would more than likely go for a lowpower draw mini-itx based system. I am not holding my breath though and the current plan is to make do with what I have. The wireless hotpots (two) seem to be fairly stable. Nobody is complaining ... yet.

if it compiles well with gcc 1.0 its stable c++ code :)

dovecot add incompatible config changes to 2.4, this means for me and my custommers downtime, or i need to make a new dovecot server, where the old postfix server stay, since postfix do not make incompatible config changes

    For sure.

However since then I broke down and am deploying kv-6.16.x kernels again.

if it compiles well with gcc 1.0 its stable c++ code :)

Myself, I'd settle for gcc 4 with straight c code. Good luck with that. :-(

dovecot add incompatible config changes to 2.4,

gentoo maintainers will keep 2.3 if it 2.4 fails to much, qestions if dovecot maintainers dont care, if i find to many bugs in dovecot i will redo with cyrus-imapd

but this require me to make a new mail storage host, and raise my deploy price :/

pentoo? Is this one of gentoo's bastard children? Is gentoo turning into debian?

pentoo got made after many gentoo developpers want something core diffrent, i lost why, but pentoo developpers stopped as gentoo developpers :)

    That can and does happen.

seems so, but postfix developper do not break old postfix installs wich incompatible updates, no thank you, hope dovecot will be better in future or die.....

just remember have oldest longterm should work

Shouldn't be an issue. Is it?

i lost why, but pentoo developpers stopped as gentoo developpers

This is the first I've heard of it. According to google it is a live distribution for CDs and/or USB drives. They even claim 32-bit as well as 64-bit versions. I'll probably have a looksee at it.

hope dovecot will be better in future or die

I've been having the same feeling about python except that I have little to no faith given their track record. To me it looks like they are going out of their way to break everything, especially backwards compatibilty with themselves.
