    More about them:

Louis Jolliet, who mapped much of the Mississippi River.

Thomas Batte, one of the first Anglo-Virginians to explore west of the Appalachian
    Mountains.

Vitus Bering, Danish cartographer and explorer and an officer of the Russian Navy.

Gregory Blaxland, English pioneer farmer and explorer in Australia, noted for the first
successful crossing of the Blue Mountains by European settlers.

Christopher Columbus, Italian explorer who opened the door for European colonization
    of the Americas.

Arthur Dobson, New Zealand surveyor, engineer and explorer, best known for taking the
first party of Europeans over Arthur's Pass.

Thor Heyerdahl, Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer with a background in zoology,
botany, and geography. He is considered the founder of experimental archaeology.

Josephine Peary, Arctic explorer, author, and the first white woman to take part in Arctic
    expeditions.

Willi Rickmers, German alpinist, skiing pioneer and explorer. In particular, he was the
leader of an international expedition to the Pamir mountain ranges of Central Asia.

Lady Hester Stanhope, one of the most famous travelers (and travel writers) of her age.

David Thompson, trader, surveyor, and cartographer in Canada and the United States.
Over the course of his lifetime he would end up traveling more than 50,000 miles.

Sir Hubert Wilkins, an Australian polar explorer, ornithologist, pilot, soldier, geographer
    and photographer.

    ----

I have some ancestors that were actors, architects, astronauts, Afro-American, authors, bank robbers, boxers, comedians, detectives, ghosts, holocaust survivors
Indian chiefs, pro hockey players, singers and musicians, painters, physicians,
politicians, poets, popes, writers, WW I heroes. I guess that I am a collection of
all of them, as we ALL are.

https://www.wikitree.com helps me gather this information with their weekly newsletters. It is totally free and very useful to genealogists.
