I'm glad you survived, mate. Thank you for the taking the time to

Nah. Russkies do not play with loaded dice.

I have not the slightest clue where I might have caught it.

Cats. It had to be the cats.

    Source: AP

Two pet cats in New York state have tested positive for the
coronavirus, marking the first confirmed cases in companion animals
in the United States, federal officials said Wednesday.

The cats, which had mild respiratory illnesses and are expected to
recover, are thought to have contracted the virus from people in their households or neighborhoods, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and
the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

The finding, which comes after positive tests in some tigers and lions
at the Bronx Zoo, adds to a small number of confirmed cases of the
virus in animals worldwide. U.S. authorities say that while it appears
some animals can get the virus from people, there's no indication the
animals are transmitting it to human beings.

"We don't want people to panic. We don't want people to be afraid
of pets" or to rush to test them en masse, said Dr. Casey Barton
Behravesh, a CDC official who works on human-animal health connections. "There's no evidence that pets are playing a role in spreading this
disease to people." Still, the CDC is recommending that people prevent
their pets from interacting with people or animals outside their homes
-- by keeping cats indoors and dogs out of dog parks, for instance.

Health care professionals say it takes 16 years for a smoker's
lungs to clear up after he/she quits. How much lungs recover for
COVID-19 survivors remains an unknown. Estimates are 20% to 30%
loss of lung capacity due to COVID-19 based on what I could find
on the web. Have no idea as to how accurate that might be.

The rest is pretty good, the heart was checked, legionella, things ... so
    my
side-effect is that I will never will be able to breathe enough to run the 100m in 10.0s.

Seasonal flu recovery rates are estimated at 97% to 99%.
But COVID-19 is not the seasonal flu ...

But I've been way luckier than others.

Unless it becomes reactivated and you have to do it all over again.

One thing though ... I notice a smoker from a way bigger distance now.

Don't look at me. Gave those things up last century.
But still have to put up with second hand smoke. Nasty shit.

    Same here...

I called my older sister in Fla. about a month ago when news of this virus first hit "the news". She's a die-hard repubican, trump-stumper... and she said to me, "It is JUST a flu... This is all baloney". I let her rant and rave, then I just hung up the phone. There was no point in trying to warn her.

I see now on Facebook she's changed her pic to be one of her wearing a mask with the phrase, "Stay Home, Save Lives, Quaranteam".. so I guess she finally "understands". I sure hope so <sigh>

Jim Jones thought he could get away with it. Had his bags all
packed and ready to go. But somebody shot him dead before he could
make it out of the jungle.

Ditto with David Koresh. No Kool-Aid for him, either. Just a single
shot of lead, right between the eyes.

None of these death cult leaders ever makes the ultimate sacrifice
themselves. So why do folks keep listening and obeying their every
    command?

I do not believe Donald Trump intends to kill anyone. He is just
a grifter. Nothing more. A two-bit grifter. Same with his son in
    law and idiot children.

I do not place my trust in folks like that. But many people
have been bamboozled to believe in him as if he is their lord
and savior. A true cult figure to love and behold.

I see Trump (think it was last night) suggested injecting bleach or Lysol (household cleaner) would be useful to kill Covid.. uncanny.

Trump was being serious when he made those remarks. Nothing
"sarcastic" about anything he said. He honestly believes what
he says in public is the gospel truth. And his followers eat

While I found his remarks goofball for a president to say,

If I knew the answer to that, I'd probably be famous. Perhaps people like my sister surround themselves with like-minded people so they never have to question their instincts/opinions? "Stupid is as stupid does." Gump rhymes with Trump... 8-)

ever looked up the etymology of the word "trump"? the 2nd verb usage is telling
    ;)

    trump (n.1)

"playing card of a suit ranking above others," 1520s, alteration of triumph (n.), which also was the name of a card game.

    trump (n.2)

"trumpet," c. 1300, from Old French trompe "long, tube-like musical wind instrument" (12c.), cognate with Provençal tromba, Italian tromba, all probably from a Germanic source (compare Old High German trumpa, Old Norse trumba "trumpet"), of imitative origin.

    trump (v.1)

"surpass, beat," 1580s, from trump (n.). Related: Trumped; trumping.

    trump (v.2)

"fabricate, devise," 1690s, from trump "deceive, cheat" (1510s), from Middle English trumpen (late 14c.), from Old French tromper "to deceive," of uncertain
origin. Apparently from se tromper de "to mock," from Old French tromper "to blow a trumpet." Brachet explains this as "to play the horn, alluding to quacks
and mountebanks, who attracted the public by blowing a horn, and then cheated them into buying ...." The Hindley Old French dictionary has baillier la trompe
"blow the trumpet" as "act the fool," and Donkin connects it rather to trombe "waterspout," on the notion of turning (someone) around. Connection with triumph also has been proposed. Related: Trumped; trumping. Trumped up "false, concocted" first recorded 1728.

negative effect that the virus alone.

Btw, a note to Jeff: There _can't_ be anything more negative than death. Ask my first-responder relative in NYC who died from it at the age of 28.

Nothing will be achieved as long as the leadership in the USA continues to see >this as a national matter and fails to realize this is a global thing requirin
    a global response.

I think that since NYC was a real hotspot early on picking up so much of the virus from it's ports of entry, airlines, trains, etc. etc., I could be wrong, but I think Gov. Cuomo knows that if the virus isn't seen as a global thing we are doomed. At least that is how he talks in his daily updates?

"America first" is not going to cut it ... it's even the worst approach possible.

Yes, that is true, it's the pits, just like Trump.

    Stay well,
    Janis
