Hello Everybody,
"Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely
vote???" ~Donald Trump tweet, July 30, 2020
We all know that Americans only elect a president one term at
a time. We also know that each term lasts only four years, and
no more. So what happens if there is no presidential election
this November 3? Or if there is no election before January 20?
Or if the results of such an election are unknown, not clear
which candidate won?
If we have no result by noon on January 20, 2021 ...
Trump/Pence do not get to carry on ...
But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi becomes President ...
Until the House of Representatives decide the election.
Did I get that right?
Attorney and journalist Ian Millhiser took issue with an analysis
of what would happen if the presidential election were to be postponed
or cancelled -
“If there is no election before January 20, Trump’s term expires
on that day, as does Pence’s so neither one of them is president.
Third in line is the Speaker of the House. But if there is no election,
every house member’s term expires on January 3. So Pelosi isn’t
president. . .
Fourth in line is the president pro tempore of the Senate, who is
the senior-most member of the majority party. Currently that is Chuck
Grassley.
But wait! 23 Republicans are up for election in 2020, and only 12
Dems are. If there is no election, all of their terms expire. . .
If 23 GOP senators lose their seats and only 12 Dems, that means a
Democratic majority, so Patrick Leahy becomes the senior-most member
of the majority party, and fourth in line.
So he becomes president on January 20, when Trump’s term expires.”

Well, as you know, things are not quite that simple. Never are.
Donald Trump may challenge the result of the Presidential votes
in a lawsuit. But since the results of a presidential election
is based on electoral votes, Trump would have to challenge voting
results at the state level. See how that works? Trump would have
to prove voter fraud in each state.
In the meantime, Nancy Pelosi becomes President. Or does she?
The Speaker of the Congress is not required to be a member of the
House. And the US Constitution clearly states she must resign her
office in order to become President.
Oh, I am so looking forward to January 3.
And even moreso to January 20.
Talk about theater of the absurd.
Not even Sweden with its refusal to go into lockdown can top this.
