Hello Everybody,
Talk about a golden moment.
Cajun from Lafayette, Louisiana
wins gold medal for Sweden in
men's pole vault.
I wonder if Bj”rn was there
to see it happen?
Of course, speaking French
in Tokyo while being handed
a gold medal from an Olympic
official who speaks Japanese
is never easy. Even for an
American whose mother is
from Sweden celebrating in
Swedish.
Mondo Duplantis, clearing
the bar at 19 feet, 9 inches
for Olympic gold. Not bad for
a 21-year-old Cajun native
from Lafayette, Louisiana -
besting the other 13 finalists.
This was the first time in 85
years that a current or former
LSU track and field athlete to
win an individual gold at the
Olympic Games, the last time
being in 1936 when Glenn "Slats"
Hardin did it (400-meter-hurdles).
But Hardin did not speak French
or Swedish.
Funny that he knew all the words
of the anthem as it was being played
during the medal ceremony ...
