Setting bail based on income sounds like a good idea, but I honestly don't kno
what was wrong with the original system. My state rep said "The cash bail system wasn't fair to poor people," but the crimes they are accused of aren't fair to the crime victims.
I think that is the problem with the original system, or at least it is the complaint about it. If bail was based on income, or the abilty of
the accused to pay it, that should eliminate the complaint that the
system is not fair to poor people. I don't necessarily believe it would lead to more people being let go, which is not fair to victims, and
would be more fair to everyone... certainly more so than "cashless bail."
