    Hey Aug!

Just for the record, streaming CBC radio got worse recently. Before that mpg123 worked fine for mp3 streams but now that aac is the default all that was good has died. Also, while I am at it, GEM sucks big time.

Check out the "White Men & Chicken or Egg" episode ... if you can. Offhand I seem to recall the chicken or egg debate being extremely funny.

I was using the CBC Listen app. Not sure if their CBC Gem is different.

BTW, I was opting to download one of the Debaters podcasts, and there didn't seem to be a download option for that one! Earlier, I had no problem with downloading one of the The Dose podcasts. It seems that they exclude certain podcasts for offline option?

Thx for the "Chicken Egg.." episode. I could only find it on their web interface (the app only offers the last 33 episodes).

"That Canadian Guy" Glen Foster gets his privilege checked by Ojibway comedian Don Kelly. Then, Ryan Belleville and Denis Grignon argue the chicken or the egg. You know the question about that one.

Grabbed an offline copy with yt-dlp. The result is an mp3 file. Will check it out later tonight.

    Hey Aug!

I was using the CBC Listen app. Not sure if their CBC Gem is
    different.

GEM is for the TV end of things, both for live streaming and archived shows. I currently have it working with firefox although they recommend Chrome. The radio signal is a different service and it used to be far more accessable (compatible) for a wide variety of apps, many which work great from the linux console. They seem to be going out of their way to totally fsck things up. :-/

TV I can live without. At the moment I use GEM for the national news but it can also be had at YouTube who do a way better job of streaming live or otherwise.

Sounds interesting. The archive directory is what I'd like access to.

Never used GEM. I don't have the bandwidth for streaming long-
term videos like that. I usually just find material I might
like and try yt-dlp against it. There are

Don't have home TV here. The sources online are plenty to
choose from and watch later from a thumbdrive to the media
player/converter attached to my traditional/offgrid LED TV.

In the not so distant past, the Debaters has never really been
readily available, AFAIK. They've treated it as pay-per-use
material. They are findable on iTunes but each episode is $s.

Gonna try yt-dlp on all the episodes I can get. Ask me how that
    went later.

seems that mplayer plays it just fine. i used the inspector in the browser to get the m3u8 url that looks like this:

    https://cbcradiolive.akamaized.net/hls/live/2041038/ES_R1EWD/adaptive_192/chunk list_ao.m3u8

i don't know how long it will play or how long those urls are valid.

also i duno why you listen to this.. they're playing propaganda for the WEF.

I am seriously thinking of following your lead. As for the National and CBC Vancouver news, they both have feeds at YouTube which is vastly more stable a feed. CBC Radio One I can still get using mplayer on the commandline although I still think the oldfashioned.

    mplayer https://cbcradiolive.akamaized.net/hls/live/2041051/ES_R1PVI/master.m3u8

gives me CBC Radio One Victoria. If I am not mistaken "The Debaters" is on Saturday morning at 11:00am PST. Also the same *should* work with VLC which from my understanding would be a better choice for Windows users.

    According to my source (https://codeberg.org/nev/cbc-radio-streams/src/branch/master/cbc.m3u) Toronto is listed as;

    https://cbcradiolive.akamaized.net/hls/live/2041036/ES_R1ETR/master.m3u8

Gonna try yt-dlp on all the episodes I can get. Ask me how that

    Hello Maurice!

..If I am not mistaken "The Debaters" is on Saturday
    morning at 11:00am PST.

    For me..

    CBC Radio One
    Friday 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM EST
    Saturday 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM EST

I didn't realize it was on Fri *and* Sat.

Also the same *should* work with VLC which from my
understanding would be a better choice for Windows users.

VLC is indeed the most versatile player for this sort of thing.

iTunes used to manage the cbc http:// stream before, but not
anymore. I do, however, like iTunes "Radio" option and its
variety of stations sorted be genre.

Gonna try yt-dlp on all the episodes I can get. Ask me how

Don't hold your breath. But I would like a catalog of the
Debaters at the ready so that I have some material to listen to
whenever I want. Even just picking the ones that have Sean
Cullen would be pretty good entertainment.

I seem to recall when that particular episode (chicken or egg) was first broadcast the Debaters was Wed amd Sat (repeat).

VLC is indeed the most versatile player for this sort of thing.

Given the number of different platforms that have a VLC available, then I'd have to agree. However, speaking as one who likes to tweak, then my custom built mplayer reigns supreme methinks.

I did notice the word "Telegram" on that page.

Don't think I am interested at the present time for a App on this phone.
As You know I want some kind of Bluetooth device to use the phones data with the XP rig here

Besides the USB device I also saw another device with a CAT5 jack on it.
That has me thinking about using that device in the place where the old DSL modem was plugged in the Linksys Router.
Using that CAT5 device I could use either the XP or Vista PC as I used to do.

I WANT to get back to doing 'computing' as I used to do.

.. I don't think it will work for your situation. The adapters

*to* the phone. But in your case, you want to tap into the
    internet *from* the phone.
