Plus....getting to the Senate would be a much different situation than
in front of the democrat-controlled committees in the House; in the
Senate it would be much like a courtroom trial. presided over by the
    Chief Justice.

The democrat `house managers' would be the prosecutors, and Trump is entitled to a legal team who can cross examine democrat witnesses; call witnesses of their own; present their own evidence; etc.

We can only hope that will happen. Anything short of that would be a
    sham.

They do not have one single fact witness. Only hear-say witnesses, and
a pack of academics who's best contribution was out-right Trump hate!

There were numerous witnesses who testified in open hearings, including
several who were there when the call was made. They are not hear-say witnesses. All of the fact based witnesses were career employees and
testified to things based on their direct knowledge.

    Hello Dale,

How many Republicans voted in favor of article 1
    (abuse of power)?

How many Republicans voted in favor of article 2
    (obstruction of Congress)?

Article 1 was passed by a vote of 230-197.
Article 2 was passed by a vote of 229-198.

No Republicans voted against their lord and savior, Donald Trump.

    So ...

What does it matter how many witnesses who testify in open hearings?
Even if they had direct knowledge of what happened, or if they were
eye witnesses? Facts do not matter when it comes to this bunch, who
have clearly chosen to put party above country.

The Republican party no longer exists as a political party. It
has devolved into something else. Call it Trumpism or whatever else
might come to mind. A cult of personality, with Trump at the helm
for now. What comes next makes me shudder.

I see your grasp of history is well rooted in the Soviet-style.

Clinton was not impeached over a hummer. He was impeached over lying about it.
That's ignoring the fact that such behavior would be a fireable offence in just about every company at the time.

As I read over the Articles of Impeachment of Clinton, they basically can be summed up like this:
    He lied. Under oath.
He tried to cover up the lies by doing various things.

So, in effect, they tried to impeach Clinton for being a Democrat. It's no wonder why he wasn't convicted.
