PG&E has let me know they plan to cut power to my house on 11/15 from 9:00am to 3:00pm PDT for preventative maintenance.

PG&E needs the entire day? Sounds like Toronto Hydro...

I assume one guy does all the work while three others smoke and "supervise".

Oh fun, "prventative maintenance". Just as their lines don't get too hot and overheat.

Did you get my netmail from a few days ago involving BBS_CARNIVAL?

PG&E is terrible. They spend as little as possible maintaining their equipment so the CEO and the board can line their pockets.

    Like road construction workers.

Ohhhhhhh don't get me started on that.

I love how we're supposedly a "World class city" yet we have the worst traffic in Canada, potholes everywhere, construction that lasts for months even years.

The city recently spent millions digging out some abandoned boring equipment for an abandoned mass transit project, in itself another money pit.

The city has a 1 billion shortfall and tolls have been discussed by our recently elected mayor who is not exactly known for conservative spending.

They're gong to be trimming trees around power poles all over my neighborhood. They'll either cut power during the window as needed, or cut it all in the morning and leave it all off until the end of the window. We'll see.

I have an inverter and can run my fridge off of it, so we won't lose food, but I would have liked to go work elsewhere while the work was happening.

Ah yes, the old "tax and spend" trick. Happens in my tiny (around 72K people) town as the town government would rather spend money on "car crash" art rather than fix the roads and sidewalks that are in terrible shape. The town governmemnt kowtows to the wants and demands of the local state university and its psuedo-intellectual fart-sniffing administration.

Hopefully the work goes in a timely manner.

When the city replaced a watermain in my neighborhood they estimated a few weeks which turned into several months. Street completely torn up and the noise from the work almost made it impossible to take work calls at home.

The same thing happens here. Policies and priority given to the downtown elites while the rest of the city and surrounding boroughs suffer.

I'd love to move out of town but my financial, transportation, and
health issues stop the from coming to fruition, not to mention the
absolutely sky-high real estate prices from all of the out-of-towners
moving in and artificially inflating prices for the locals.

Its the same here in a way. Once the kid is off to college/university or however the living arrangements will pan out.. the plan is to move out of Toronto to somewhere cheaper but still remain within city-limits.

There are opportunities to really move to the middle of nowhere but I would lose a very lucrative tech contract in the city and would really take a "hit" moneywise. Everything has gone up in price except my salary.
