A situation has come up where a user had their channel
registered by another user. This may have been when I was
still setting things up and the like. Currently channels
do not expire if not used. Should we expire channels on IRC
that are not used in case of takeover and run situations?

I think situations like this are going to be few and far between, and humans could make the decision on whether or not a channel should be "expired", especailly if someone else wants the channel name.

If you're looking for an official line, maybe "If a channel has not seen activity in the past <amount of time, I'd say at least 6 months!>, it could be re-assigned to someone else at the descretion of IRC Operators.

Defintely not. I don't need any more work than I already have. It would mean someone would have to do something. No other network does this, as far as I'm aware.

Well, I'm going to give more weight to DM's vote since he really is the network operator. Channels and Nicks are going to expire after 28 days...if it works properly :)

1: No - Never expire channels. Tough titties. [3
    42.86%] û 2: Yes - Expire after 14 days. People should log in often. [1 14.29%] û 3: Yes - Expire after 28 days. Give them benefit of the doubt [3 42.86%] û

Ok well, that didn't format well...I'll leave that to whoevr to fix.

Seems it's a tie for No, never expire and expire after 28 days. I'm going with the 28 days since the issue of channel takeovers came up. It's only fair if you're going to take a channel, you should use it or hand it back.

Please let me know if there's any issue with expiries.

    Thanks,
    Nigel
