• 0xc000007b error installing on Windows 11

From Sys 64738@1:103/705 to All on Tue Jan 18 20:41:40 2022
I had this same error trying to install on Windows 10. I was able to work through it on Windows 10 after I threw everything I could at it. I took a lot of notes during that time in case I were to run into that problem again.

I'm trying to work through it on Windows 11, but the same methods don't seem to be effective. I've gone all the way back to "square one" so many times that my computer thinks I live there now.

Sorry, I'm mainly just venting, but has anyone else had this same issue trying to install on Windows 11?

I haven't tried it myself on Windows 11, yet.

But, just so you're aware, you don't technically have to *install* Synchronet at all. You could just extract the sbbs_dev.zip and sbbs_run.zip files into the appropriate directories and then run sbbsctrl.exe or sbbs.exe and voila: you're running Synchronet. Or you could archive a working Synchronet directory from any other Windows system and then just copy and extract the archive on the Windows 11 system.

I thought about doing that, but after I educated myself on this error code, it points to an issue with one of the dll files. However, it doesn't specify what dll file it is having a problem with which is very unfortunate and has resulted in a plethoric cess pool of folks trolling so-called "solutions" and "fixes".

I did run a dependency detector to see what dll files sbbs.exe was searching for and did find those files in their proper directories. The only thing it didn't tell me is if any were missing. Below is the list of the dll files that were present. If you'd like to take a look, I'd be interested if you notice any that are missing.

Are you trying the run the *installer* (setup.exe) or sbbs.exe? They will have different dependencies.

I didn't think to run the dependencey check on setup.exe. I'll give that a go and see what the result is.

That still doesn't answer my question. You get the reported error when you run which Synchronet .exe files, exactly?
