  • Spitfire's Y2k25 bug

    Sadly, looks like Spitfire is RIP forever. On the morning of 1-1-2025 I noticed that all SF nodes would no longer boot as it requests to set the system date and time.

    Looking into putting it on a VM w/ the date set to 2014 but perhaps its just time to say goodbye.

    That's really sad. I know that Mike Woltz passed away in 2022; it's
    a shame that the source code to Spitfire wasn't released as open source
    before that. Does anyone know how to get in touch with his estate?
    Perhaps they'd be willing to transfer the code somewhere and someone
    could patch it. For that matter, maybe the binary could be patched.

    I ran Spitfire back in the early 90's. I've always had a soft spot
    for it in my heart.

    Last year I put a few days into trying to find a family contact w/ out much luck. But, I'm not a person finding expert so I'm sure it can be done by someone with the correct tools.

    I'm upset w/ myself as I had an ongoing thread with Mike before he passed. We worked on a few bugs i found and he even updated my spitfire.exe not long ago. I was going to ask him if he had plans on making SF freeware and/or opensource but i knew he got a little put off with this line of question.

    Same.. I remember how excited i was when i got the init strings to pick up a call and about fell of my chair when my first call came in :)
