• Amtrak 50th Anniversary Engines

From Al Kaiser@1:142/926 to All on Thu Nov 18 10:40:20 2021
Amtrak is running the 50th Anniversary Locmotive Engines on some of their routes. I've seen it on the Farpoint, NY camera and also on the Springield, MA Camera running on the Lake Shore Limted route.

They had one on the CT Rail Line for a week and I was fortunate enough to capture it on video going thru the Quinnipac St. crossing in Wallingford.
    CT.

I was going to try and get a couple of station stops and other run bys but
it was on there for a week and got tranferred to some other line.

I sent an email asking for it to be brought back for a longer run but have not got an answer from Amtrak.

Although not directly related, I often travel via VIA in Ontario, and a week ago, because of major bridgework being done by the CNR here in Canada, the commuter trains had to venture afield (literally) using freight lines
you don't often see them. Railfans were out in force, documenting
    the strange train movements.

And you probably won't - get an answer, that is. Amtraak only is an
illusion of a customer-service business. Still, I prefer it to the silver birds.

after COVID we finally got these locomotives in Canada. The first time back was in June 2022 and I had a nice stay planed in Niagara Falls... I shot it good then. Also had a couple more come through since but not all of them

    they look great!

oh, i was probably photographing you. What was the date? ill check to see if I shot you.

The work was actually on the oakville sub - metrolinx now owns it andis doing a crud ton of work often on weekends. Usually 2-4 times a year they do these reroutes due to the work planned.

it's all in preparation for either more service, electrification, or for the LRT build in mississauga (hurontario LRT required closure for underpass/tunnel construction) as well as any major track repairs that require closure.

when VIA reroutes the Freight only Halton sub it's always a good day. Countryide , trains, single track with 'sidings' and lots of freights make it worth a few hours.

I was doing this just two weeks ago.... amtrak still hasn't sent a heritage unit during the re-routes though, that would be a real treat

Somehow I missed the original post but the subject sparked my interest. I'm planning a trip on the Amtrak Crescent from Birmingham to New Orleans at the end of June. First time on Amtrack but I spent a number of years volunteering as a brakeman at a railroad museum nearby. Fun times!
