How the Trump Method Works

Anyone who closely studies the method Trump employs knows that he bets incredibly high, aiming to put the other party under immense pressure. This is a method that served him well in the construction industry, as many contractors didn't have the financial resources to withstand the pressure for long.
Trump consistently managed to secure enormous discounts by simply not paying invoices (or not paying them in full).
In international political relations, such a pressure-cooker method only works if your opponent is cornered. Think of Ukraine, which desperately needs foreign aid to fend off Russia.
But this method doesn't work with China, because China is capable of putting the same pressure on the US.
The EU is the same.
You saw that China used the exact same method on Trump, forcing him to back down. Canada did the same, and so did Mexico.
A fun game, but what you mustn't forget is that this method destroys mutual trust.
That last point is disastrous.
China will never want to be dependent on the US again. The EU, Canada, Mexico, all of them never want to be in the situation Trump tried to put them in.
Not even if Trump ever disappears from the political scene. After all, the US chose this man a second time! So, it's not just Trump; it's also the American population that supports this.
Trust in the American people is also gone.
The Trump method has now lost its element of surprise. We know the steps he takes time and again, and we now know he'll back down as soon as enough resistance is met.
Furthermore, we also know that his vanity is his weakness. You can easily appease him. A painting of him, a statue of him, a 400-million-dollar plane... It just depends on how much you're willing to give, but he's for sale. Putin bought him off in his first term with just a football. Trump simply likes getting things for free.
