• Talks between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey

Putin will be absent today; he doesn't dare to have direct talks with Zelenskyy. Nevertheless, Russia is sending a high-level delegation to Turkey for direct talks with Ukraine.

    Talks are good.

However, we shouldn't have hope yet that it will quickly lead to anything. After all, if that were Russia's goal, Putin would have shown up.

Ukraine does want peace. They cannot defeat Russia. At least not militarily.

What Ukraine can do, however, is inflict so much pain on the Russians that they give up. Ukraine's entire strategy is aimed at that. Ukraine doesn't fight to the death anywhere but retreats when the pressure from the Russians becomes too high. The Russians then conquer some territory, but at a high price.

The hope is that the price Russia has to pay for the territorial gains will at some point be seen as 'too high' and they will decide to leave, just like in Afghanistan in 1989, because it is no longer worth all the sacrifices.

In fact, Russia has already lost. They just don't want to admit it yet.

The Russian leadership does not yet have the will to stop the war. So unfortunately, this war will continue.
