Make that European girls. Why do you think that the most popular cars in Europe were VW Beetle, Citro‰n 2CV, BMC Mini, Fiat 500 and the likes? Never any F-150 and similar monsters. Our girls can see far beyond the hood...

    Hello Bj”rn,

One of my friends used to have a Yugo.

One day, while driving on the highway, his windshield fell out.
His dad had some aviator goggles, so he put those on so he could
drive the car to a shop in New Orleans to replace the windshield.
Cop pulled him over on the highway, as it is not legal to drive
    a car without a windshield.

My friend had to step out of the car, helmet and goggles still
on his face, and explain to the cop why he was wearing them while
driving. I was not sure if the cop was going to arrest him for
insanity or die from laughing out loud.

He decided to let him continue on his way with just a warning.

On the way back, his horn popped out.

The Yugo was sold in the USA for only a short while.
Very cheap car. Made in Yugoslavia. Basically, a 1969 Fiat.

Basically a very bad copy, like all cars made by Soviet controlled areas by then. Never made it in Western Europe.

Then again maybe he should have bought a Vega (Chevy) rather than a Yugo?

    Hello Bj”rn,

The Yugo was sold in the USA for only a short while.
Very cheap car. Made in Yugoslavia. Basically, a 1969 Fiat.

Basically a very bad copy, like all cars made by Soviet controlled areas by
then. Never made it in Western Europe.

Fiat is a company in Italy, and still is. The old plant was sold
to a company in Serbia, which produced the Yugo. The Yugo is a copy
of the 1969 Fiat. Parts are interchangeable with the Yugo, as I
know from the experience of others. Finding parts that old were a
problem, but stashing used Yugos was not.

The car was so bad that Bill Clinton bombed it to smithereens
during NATO's war on Serbia. And no more new parts could be found
anywhere from that point on - except from other used Yugos.

Then again maybe he should have bought a Vega (Chevy) rather than
    a Yugo?

Nothing is the same as owning a Yugo. Especially one that runs.

This is something that folks from other lands do not understand.
Americans love their cars. No matter where that car comes from, it
is their dearly beloved. The Yugo was no different.

One neighbor loved his Yugo so much that he always had two or three
other Yugos in his yard, which he used for spare parts. The only
thing that stopped him from driving was a stroke, the inability
to speak, and the loss of one leg. Thank god the Yugo was a stick
    shift.

    For Life,
    Lee

The car company Zastava, that made the Yugo, was located in the country Yugoslavia. The province Serbia, then part of Yugoslavia, became a sovereign state in 2006, long after the car model Yugo went off production. I think they are making guns or something like that now.
