    The changes.txt mentions:

    OpenXP 5.0.42 - 2019-12-28

    Bugs fixed:

    - Turning off text highlighting did not work if message reader was
    in UTF-8 mode

I have configured 5.0.40 (Win) to use UTF-8 and toggling highlighting
seems to work OK. Could that have been just a linux-version thing?

OR, maybe I am not observing the behaviour correctly? I haven't really needed to use the highlighting other than the automatic way it highlights messages addressed to me.

But I can toggle highlight on other messages and the changes seem to
"stick" just fine. Not sure if the toggle is retained between sessions. Will have to try that.

    [...]

    Yep. No problem.

    This is my UTF-8 setting:

ÚÄ Internal message reader options ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
    ³ ³
    ³ [x] Full screen ³
    ³ [x] Display clock ³
    ³ [x] Line break in column 80 ³
    ³ [x] Show reference arrows ³
    ³ [x] Fixed message header display ³
    ³ ³
    ³ [ ] Convert German ISO Umlauts ³
    ³ [x] Use UTF-8 ³
    ³ [x] *Highlight* words by colour ³

    ³ ³
    ³ [ ] Mouse scroll bar ³
    ³ [x] AutoScrolling ³
    ³ ³

Is this the only place to enable UTF-8 ?

    Or, did I miss something?

    Nope, just tested it.

With message text *xxx* toggling the highlite in message reader with
    key
'f' didn't work in pre 5.0.42 releases if UTF-8 was enabled.

This concerns both Windows ann Linux releases.

    Where is this " key 'f' "?

I was toggling the highlight with:

    Message/Change/Highlight

..while viewing the message LIST. That was working fine.

    [ ... ]

OK, nevermind. I found out what you guys meant by key 'f'.

The terminology you guys used for highlighting is different from what key
'f' really refers to. You guys were referring to BOLDING which is accomplished by surrounding a word with the * symbol. And.. tapping on
the 'f' key while READING a message changes the status of BOLDED words.
That works quite fine. I may not bother to test it with previous version because it may now be irrevalent.

Thankfully "upgrading" is just a simple matter of unpacking the new
archive over the existing files. That, I like.

Yes. I am located in -0500 offset from UCT.

I also notice that many of our messages written with older versions had
the same EDA tag with the "correct" number at the end. So, it looks like
oxp incorporated the time zone offsets, but it only did not export them as
    a formal FTN kludge. ?

[1] Where can I find a list of all the variables used for the templates?

    eg. $VORNAME, $BRETT, $ERSTELLT, etc..

[2] Is there a way to create a special template for Ctl-Q (reply to recipient)?

When I need to reply to recipient with Ctl-Q, oxp uses my standard reply template with "Hello $VORNAME". It needs to use the other name (the name
in the TO field) in the converstion.

I have another question related to [2] above, but I can't test it while in editing this message. So, I'll send that separately.

    Here is the other question.

When I do a Ctrl-Q, oxp places the correct (RECIPIENT) name in the TO
field for the message. But it doesn't pass the name to $VORNAME.

    +- Public message (quote) ---------------
    |
    | To /FIDO/POINTS
    |
    | Subject oxp: reply to recipient
    |
    | Fido-to Martin Foster
    |
    +----------------------------------------

For example, shouldn't oxp place the name specified in "Fido-to" above
    into $VORNAME?

My quote-reply template starts with: "Hello $VORNAME".

When I do a Ctrl-Q, I always see the name that was in the From field of
    the original message.

I have to edit "Hello _______ " and change the name that oxp puts in
    there.

In an ideal world, yes, it should but as OpenXP has always used the
same message template for Quote Replies and for Comment Replies, it
    doesn't do that.

My quote-reply template starts with: "Hello $VORNAME".

As does mine and when I do a Comment Reply, I change the greeting line manually in the message editor but I sometimes forget to change it.

    Martin
