    7zip used as

    7z e nodelist.z08

    results in

    Nodelist.108 (0 bytes)

    Isn't that enough to drive you dippy.

    I get weird behaviour from 7z command-line too, but eventually it unpacks just fine:

    Doesn't the Windows file manager support zip natively?

    But zip and unzip from the command line should be easy to use (I think).

    I get about the same weird result as August:

    d:\com\inbound>"c:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" e NODELIST.Z08

    Would you like to replace the existing file:
    Path: .\NODELIST.108
    Size: 165590 bytes (162 KiB)
    Modified: 2020-04-17 00:25:02
    with the file from archive:

    Archives with Errors: 1

    Open Errors: 2

    But afterwards there is a correct unpacked NODELIST.108 file.

    When I rename the NODELIST.Z08 to NODELIST.ZIP, it unpacks without complaining:

    ===
    d:\com\inbound>"c:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" e NODELIST.ZIP

    7-Zip 19.00 (x64) : Copyright (c) 1999-2018 Igor Pavlov : 2019-02-21

    Extracting archive: NODELIST.ZIP
    --
    Path = NODELIST.ZIP
    Type = zip
    Physical Size = 52554

    Everything is Ok

    Size: 165590
    Compressed: 52554
    ===

    So it seems 7z gets confused by the .Z08 extension. It probably thinks it's file 8 in a multiple file archive...

    Bye, Wilfred.

    Alan,

    Yes, I think it does.

    At least in the GUI.

    The second I intstalled a trial of winzip my system was hijacked by it.

    But, it won't do a CLUI.

    BTW everyone, 7zip did work.

    It worked on the first instance I used "7z e nodelist.Z03".

    The others resulted in 0 byte files.

    Anyhow, I tripped over the unzipped file when I was trolling around for something else.

    Now I will try it in the OpenXP.

    I hope it works.

    Alan

    Winzip became the only compression utility on my system.

    I just uninstalled it and will see if anything works better.

    That is most probably it! You are good at this. ;)

    Zippy is more like it!

    During the Archiver wars of the twentieth century, someone came up with a
    joke archiver that created a 1 byte archive. Claimed it blew any other
    archive format out of the water.

    Also, if memory served, said they were still working on the unarchiver. :)
