    Yeah, so have I.

Considering how long I've been using OpenXP and its predecessor, even I
tend to get confused occasionally. It's something I've learnt to live with over the years but never done anything about it. For now, let's say it's
    just a quirk.

DD.MM (day and month) and MM/YY (month and year)

*I* can't do anything about it, so I've passed your message on to the developer. As soon as he replies back, I'll let you know what he has to
    say.

I using openxp 5.0.51 on linux

Same problem with the Windows version.

The format DD.MM is used if the message was creatd in the last 12 months. Otherwise the format MM/YY is used.

The weird sorting in the list results of the fact that messages
aren't sorted by creation date, but by receive date.

So the message created on 2021-02-13 "Rodrigo Pelaez Fernando Toledo Re: Listado de BBS Lat!" was received before the message created in Jan.2021 "Flavio Bessa Fernando Toledo Daily Nodelist proceusú".

But anyway, i'll have a look at it to see what could be done.
    ---------- 8< ----------

I suspected that's what was happening all along. Personally, I
like the mixed use of DD.MM and MM/YY It clearly helps to
eyeball the messages that are clearly older than 12 months.

Well yes, there is that about it but it still tends to confuse me occasionally, must be my age 8-/

In retrospect, I thought that the use of DD.MM and MM/YY (for
older than 12 months) was very clever. It's really not unlike
what I see what some email programs try to do to help sort
messages in a larger visual way. Besides, we (OXP users) also
have the option to use the wonderful S)earch features to
identify messages within a date range.

If there were a change in the DD.MM vs MM/YY, I would rather
have the option to retain that presentation as a config setting
instead of replacing it with something to "fix" it.

I agree, I do not consider it an error but a possible option to configure
