• Mystic QWK strange happenings

From Rick Sanchez@1:105/420 to All on Mon Jan 23 10:24:54 2023
Ok, so this is what I am noticing from various different BBS's when using QWK packets. I will explain my exact process first:

I log into BBS. I will then the first time goto Offline/QWK mail and select which areas I want it to scan for my packets. I will then select to download the packet and complete the download. I will select the option for mystic to update my last read pointers.

If I sign back on right away, or throughout the day and do the process of downloading again, it will create a packat with JUST what has been unread since my last download.

However, after (random? or maybe after Maintenance?) some time I will come back to download the QWK packet and ALL areas are downloading EVERY message again as if I've never read ANY of the messages in these messasge areas. Like stated before, this does not seem to be only one BBS this is happening on, but multiple BBS's I have been downloading packets from. I am hoping someone has some input on this topic and can either advice something I am doing incorrect, or a setting / maintenance change to the Mystic systems to correct the problem.

    Thanks

Could be an combination issue with the message base packer, and someone running the packer way more often than they should be.

Is it happening with your new scan within the BBS or just when downloading QWK? To be quite honest I rarely do any testing of the QWK system these days unless someone mentions an issue, so I'll have to do some tests.

I didn't notice it before in the regular message bases when using them before I started using QWK. I have switched to just reading the bases without quick for now since I couldn't keep track of new messages reliably the other way. I don't have my BBS up at the moment to test it myself. I am really thinking it has something to do with packing message bases as well. I notice the problem most often when I've gone overnight/a day or two between logging in to download QWK packets. If its been an hour or two and I log back it it seems to remember my last read point correctly.
This problem shows itself on whatever setups both 20forbeers and Quantum Wormhole are using. There was a couple other ones as well, but I don't remember them off the top of m head.

Let me know if I can help in any way to help figure out what is causing the issue.

Ok thanks I'll see what I can figure out.
