• Me in ASCII Art

From Ed Vance@1:2320/105 to All on Tue Jul 30 21:47:00 2019
    Howdy!,

Joe Mackey sent photos of some of the people He visited on His trip.

Some of You know what I look like.

I have been wanting to try entering a ASCII picture of myself in a BBS
message since I've read about the ASCGEN Program in the FREEDOS echo about
five years ago so anyone who reads the MEMORIES echo would (kinda) know what
    I look like.

    I downloaded ASCGEN from: http://ascgendotnet.jmsoftware.co.uk/download/

Today I thought I'd try using the Program.

I found a photo of My Face made last July and the first time I tried making
a ASCII picture the results was too large to fit in a 80 column screen.

Each line was about 150 characters long, too long for putting it in this message.

The second time I adjusted the settings a bit and I 'think' I got one that
will fit in a BBS Message.

I found a photo of My Face made last July and the first time I tried making a
    ASCII picture

I don't think Doc's does ascii or if he does I don't have it switched on.

all systems used today do ASCII unless they're mainframes or minis in which case they may use EBCIDIC...

    All I got was this:

    WhmhAkARKQAGo. :33X5D8X58DX3Gc, .;oZFFRAmGF8FxFZZ08XGFFGZD
    A0ZDQAZoc,.. :0QGCc:.,,,.:;ccc;, :occj88Fx23XX2C5CXCx35

that is definitely ASCII... ASCII is 7bit and covers our normal letters, numbers, and punctuation characters/symbols... basically everything you see on your keyboard that you type your messages with...

the things about those types of conversions is that they are expected to be rough because the resolution of a text terminal has normally been 80x24 or 80x25 if you have a status line enabled... converting a picture taken at, say, 1024x768 resolution to 80x24 is a huge change... they are best viewed standing slight further way and maybe bluring or squinting one's eyes a little to forcibly blend everything together... i've just recently done something similar where i've converted a high resolution game logo to ANSI (really ASCII with color codes) in preparation for its Early Access release... while it is 30 or so lines tall, it looks pretty darn good :)

ANSI is colored and a more clearly defined drawing... ASCII is the
characters that are generally used in typing, plus more... ASCII
drawings use those characters along with spaces to "draw" a picture,
which is what Ed sent.... :)
