Palm trees aren't really native to CA, at least around LA.
They are more of a desert plant.
True... so that sounds more like NM and AZ....

Well, south Texas isn't exactly Vermont! :)

    True.... :)

I was on state route 59, which merged along with several other
highways on the beltway or whatever.
Texas is really good with signage and painted in the centre of the
lane was whatever route it was. Just stay in that lane, unless you're like me and manage to get into a line of traffic going elsewhere...
Should have just stayed in the lane, then
It was one of those deals where the lane veers off to the left of a
sudden and I was in the right centre lane in a flow of traffic and by
the time I saw the sign it was too late.

Ah, that's a different story... Gotta keep one's wits honed sharp for
that sort of driving.... and the eyes constantly moving....

Driving on a freeway in Houston was like driving in spaghetti the
way the roads go this way, that way, up, down, over, around and back.
    All at 75 mph.
I prefer going along around 50.

I'd probably have compromised at about 60, 65... unless it was actually
posted for 75.... then it might have been 70.... ;)

It was from a nail I picked up at the border. Texas has a lot of unpaved side roads and I had parked under a tree on one.
    Now you know.... :)

With all my problems when parked under a tree, I think from now I
won't park under them any longer. :)

Certainly can't blame you on that one... ;)

No, nearly all roads in Texas are posted at 75. Be it interstate or two lane. Even in city exchanges with exit/on ramps right by each other.
At that speed one can't (well, I couldn't) see much of anything around
me. No time for rubbernecking. :)
And even at that speed I was often passed like I was sitting still.

    Joe,

And even at that speed I was often passed like I was sitting still.

They do that in Arkansas...even through town.

In front of the University Of Arkansas At Little Rock, the speed limit
may be 25...but if you drive that slow, you'll get run over, or shot at.

Oh. Interstates I'd expect.... the two lanes not so much.... Even I
might not be all that comfortable driving there....

Even in city exchanges with exit/on ramps right by each
other. At that speed one can't (well, I couldn't) see much of
anything around me. No time for rubbernecking. :)

I guess one has to be from there to feel at all comfortable there... I'm
also used to the eastern highways with the speed limits lowered in the
more congested or more heavily populated areas....

And even at that speed I was often passed like I was sitting still.

That's still pretty typical.... did you pass anyone...? That's
generally my guage for what's a good speed... not the fastest on the
road, but not the slowest one either... :)
