Comedy isn't like that today. ==sigh==

Sad, but true. They think "the raunchier, the better"

I have heard a few "comics" today and take away the four letter
words, general smut and such they would have nothing to say.
I'll be talking with some one younger who might mention some comic,
singer, actor, etc of today and I have little to no idea whom they
are talking about. Same for movies. I might know a title and that's
    about it.

Todd said "I don't want my kids exposed to that garbage", and
    they penalized him for that.

I was reading something written years ago where an author was told
his book was "too clean" and to add a lot of sex and language, which
he refused to do. Can't remember either the book or author.

I'm a big fan of What's My Line and watch a couple of shows a
    week, on Sunday of course.

I think John Daly (not the golfer) and Wally Bruner, were 2 of
    the hosts.

John Charles Daley* was a long time host, from the start in 1950
    till the mid 60s anyway.
I love how he would give some long, convoluted reasoning on his
judging if an answer were yes or no. Many times Arlene, especially,
would say "Now I forgot the question".
Arlene Francis (who was hilarious and could say something once in a
while that was a tad suggestive, but with a twinkle in her eye, that
was funny). I have a crush on her. :)
Her husband Martin Gabel was an actor/director/producer on stage,
the movies and tv was an occasional guest panelist.
Both had long careers in show biz. He as above, she on stage,
    radio and tv.
Dorothy Kilgallen was a Broadway columnist and newspaper reporter
and ran with the upper crust. (Arlene was more down to earth). She
was murdered in 1965 for reasons unknown, but its believed do to her
nosing around on mob activities and dem wise guys didn't like that.

Poor Bennett Cerf. If he were alive today he wouldn't last
    two minutes on a stage.

Didn't he did a book on riddles??

He was the publisher of Random House books. A busy fella. He ran
Random House, wrote numerous books of humour, and a terrible punster.
Each panelist introduced the one beside them and Bennett was usually
last and introduced Daley with some horrible pun.
There were semi-regular guest panelists sometimes stars of stage,
screen or tv. One was Fred Allen who appeared in the 1953-55 season
till his death, Steve Allen, who had done radio and some tv got his
big break on the show. I could go on but time is liniment. :)

The night on What's My Life, when you had Arlene Francis, Dorothy Kilgallen, Groucho Marx, and Bennett Cerf on the panel,

When Groucho was on one never knew what to expect.
And it was all live at the time.
I imagine the control room was on full alert. :)

And everyone seemed to really enjoy playing the game.

I'm old fashioned. I print out a free calendar

    I have 365 dates a year...there's a calendar on the wall <G>.

I have one as well, above the kitchen sink, a Norman Rockwell bank
    freebie.

on radio about the bombing of Pearl Harbour. He was a staff reporter
on CBS at the time and I think the first one on the air.)
