I'm extremely cautious when I drive...and it drives my brother nuts.
But, all these people pass me like I'm sitting still
I don't even know why they have speed limits
then US Highway 70. The speed limit may be lower, but there's
far less traffic.
I try to keep up with the traffic, since going too slow is as much a
hazard as driving too fast.
Add to the fact so many drivers are distracted these days. They're on
the phone, texting, looking at some GPS read out, any number of things JM>and not paying that much attention to what's going on around them. So JM>many have the attitude, "Its my road, get out of my way".
I see people walking along texting and walking out into traffic, into
poles, etc. I've even seen people texting while riding a bike!
I generally only carry my phone when working. If for some reason it
rings when I'm riding along I just let it ring till I can get out of JM>traffic and be stopped. After all, there's always voice mail if its that JM>important. Generally the calls are someone wanting to sell me something JM>or begging for money.
They aren't the law, they're merely friendly suggestions.... ==sigh==
Plus one sees more. On the interstates its the same fast food joints,
the same gas stations, etc exit after exit. One could be in CT or CA for JM>all they know.
I enjoy the slower pace, going through little towns, etc. Speed up,
slow down and so forth.
a hazard as driving too fast.I try to keep up with the traffic, since going too slow is as much
It is the law that "slower traffic must keep right". Yet, folks are
passing me obviously speeding. It sounds like a double standard.
One woman in Florida was so enamored into her smartphone, that she
walked right into the side of a moving train, and was seriously injured.
I think she filed suit against the railroad...personally, I hope it was laughed out of court!!
Generally the calls are someone wanting to sell me something
or begging for money.
I have the CALL DETECTOR app on my Android phone. It has blocked
up, slow down and so forth.I enjoy the slower pace, going through little towns, etc. Speed
And reflect on what life was like when times weren't so rushed.
Its also to help protect the slower driver (even one going the limit)
from getting slammed in the rear by someone going too fast.
If someone is a hurry I'd rather them to go just around.
There have been times keeping up with traffic and I'm several mph over
the limit and some nutcase goes flying past me and just a blur.
During road construction season this one area was having a lot of near
misses and a couple people hit because some drivers didn't slow down as JM>the signs said. A couple of LEO's around the area put a stop to that.
But, but, but, don't you realise its all about _Me_. My wants, my
needs, my this and that. The heck with everyone else.
These callers are using local numbers now. The phone rings and a
local/regional number appears and people think its someone else calling JM>and answer. And the numbers change often. So you block 123-4567 the JM>next time the number is 123-4568 which isn't in the blocked system.
It also breaks the monotony of the interstate.
If someone is a hurry I'd rather them to go just around.
Same here. Admittedly, I am wishing they get pulled over by a speed
trap.
But, but, but, don't you realise its all about _Me_. My wants, my
needs, my this and that. The heck with everyone else.
That's this generation. Too many things and people in this life are
meant to discourage and destroy each other.
I want to be known for, and remembered as an ENCOURAGER.
and that's not enough to pay the $37 repair bill on the car (it neededoil, but I prefer the professionals do it).
Plus, with being into our tornado season, we have storms every few
days (we could use a good rain here, due to moderate fire danger)
I don't like going out in stormy weather. When the rain starts falling,it brings up the oil on the asphalt, and it's like driving on a sheet of
ice.
There are vids on YouTube of drivers doing stupid things like that,
general bad driving, etc where they are pulled over just up the road. JM>Called instant karma videos.
That's this generation. Too many things and people in this life are
meant to discourage and destroy each other.
Ain't that the truth.
And its in every bit of society as well.
I want to be known for, and remembered as an ENCOURAGER.
I'd give you a gold star if I had one.
I did minor things like that on my cars when I had one.
I would be happy to send you some of ours.
We got over 20 inches of rain over normal last year and this year is
looking to be the same. (But I prefer rain over snow any day).
One year it was very wet and October Fire Prevention time came and we
were waterlogged. If you stood in one spot too long you started sinking.
One of our goofy weathermen said a fire could still spark at any time
with dire consequences (houses bursting into flame, forest fires, etc).
In the late '90s I was working midnight's in dorm security. (Sort of a
gloried hotel desk clerk). For several mid-January nights we got a rain JM>that turned to sleet and everything outside was caked in ice. (Had to JM>spend time each morning chipping ice off my bike). There's a major JM>street that ran in front of the building I was in and cars would go JM>zooming down the street like a dry June afternoon, with a light at the JM>next corner. There were fender benders on a regular basis.
Or the ones who go under these "low clearance bridges", and get the
top of their vehicle "shaved right off"!!
Ain't that the truth.
And its in every bit of society as well.
So much for consideration of others. :(
I want to be known for, and remembered as an ENCOURAGER.
I'd give you a gold star if I had one.
I thought I had a dunce cap on order. <G>
The winter weather lovers have been furious, as Little Rock has seen
very little snow the last 2 winters.
Now, we're on the flip side into Tornado Season
I prefer the cold weather,
because while it makes the arthritis hurt more...it means no insects
Plus, you don't have to shovel rain. :P
Spontaneous combustion is another cause. I check the Arkansas Fire
Info site for the status of burn bans and fire danger,
I have to wonder "Why rush to a red light??".
As for the human version (Peter Sellars
The tracks for the mainline CSX (nee C&O) divide Huntington North and
South*. Many years ago, lost in the fog of time, viaducts were made JM>under the tracks for traffic. All are clearly marked X'x" clearance.
Yet there are truckers who ignore that and while the tops are not sheared JM>off (due to speed) they do get stuck and have to be towed out.
(*When Huntington was laid out in 1871, the tracks were on the edge of
town, out of the way. As time passed and the city grew people moved to JM>the southside it was no longer a boundary).
I was raised as a Southern gentleman. Part of that is opening/holding
doors for others. Some younger folk still do, but for many the person JM>behind is on their own. Also part of this was allowing older people to JM>go first.
I thought I had a dunce cap on order. <G>
I still have that with your name on it.
I was giving you a break. :)
For me the less snow and cold the better.
Now, we're on the flip side into Tornado Season
Picky, picky, picky.
The birds will eat the bugs.
Absolutely. And once the rain is done, unless there's flooding, its
gone. Snow tends to stick around a long time.
Some burning is natures way of cleaning out the dead wood so new plants
can grow. The ashes left also provide nutrients for the new plants.
I often think to myself when a car peels from a red light, "Better
hurry, you don't want someone to beat to the next one".
As for the human version (Peter Sellars
He was so good, a fine comedian.
I have many recordings of "The Goon Show" from the BBC in the '50s he
starred in. An insane program.
Also, several of these overpasses note with warning
signs that "Road Unsafe When Under Water"...but you'd be surprised how
many ignore those signs as well.
On the ham radio nets, I address the men (especially the older ones)
as Mister John, Mister Roy, etc. -- and the ladies as Miss Connie, Miss Virginia, etc.
LOL...it needs a sun visor on it to protect my eyes. <G>
I admit I like one good snow a year,
we normally get ice storms
to get a new promotion on the cable, but more so the high speed
internet. Doing both of those will save me $100 a month.
he starred in. An insane program.I have many recordings of "The Goon Show" from the BBC in the '50s
I guess that's where "The Gong Show" got its name.
And people will watch as a car ahead of them sinks and go on any way.
A minute or two later another nitwit would try and it continued till
the viaduct was passable. Sometimes a driver would try while the first JM>car is being pulled out and set to the side.
I never had a problem when titles were changed to MS since its
pronounced Miz, which just a Southern way of saying Miss. We've been JM>calling people Miz Betty, Miz Barbara for many years before it became JM>popular.
You don't need a visor while sitting in the corner facing a wall. :)
The only time I enjoy snow is looking out the window at it. :)
we normally get ice storms
We get those quite often as well.
In addition the laptop (but not desktop) has wifi (along with the phone
and tablet). Comcast provides, for a small monthly fee, a router which JM>is really nice to use wifi at home.
The city has free limited wifi downtown here which is really nice.
Limited in the sense it only covers so far, not in speed.
I guess that's where "The Gong Show" got its name.
Chuck Barris took the idea of the gong from Major Bowles Amateur Hour,
which his show was a spoof of. Maj. Bowles had a much smaller one on his JM>table near his mic.
The Goon Show had a cast of characters. Sort of a early Monty Python.
I've got the cable modem, and pay a fee for that
I mainly wanted the high speed internet...I rarely watch TV.

Some Amtrak routes have onboard WiFi, and some of the passenger
stations (mainly the larger ones) have it in the lounges.
That show was so hokey.
A few years ago when I got my new (to me) laptop I lost my cable.
(The junction box is two and a half stories off the ground on the side of JM>the wall and someone once even tampered with that! We have had students JM>here and they are always looking to get everything free).
Long story short she eventually gave in and a repairman was here a
couple of days later. He said the problem was with the modem, replaced JM>it with a new one that is also a router and back in business.
In the past the repair guy came when he felt like it. Now they say
such-and-such a time and are there in that time frame. No more making JM>appointments to be here after I got off work only to find a note they had JM>been here an hour before I got off work then reschedule for 10 days out.
I don't even have a tv. Got rid of it years ago.
Most all businesses here have free wifi for customers, get a temporary
USID/PW, sometimes only a PW is required.
I have heard the buses have wifi on them and I think Lyft and Uber does
as well.
I loved that show. I used to hurry home for lunch to watch it.
Of course the big hit of the show was "Gene Gene the Dancing Machine".
You know of course after the show went off the air he developed
diabetes and lost both his legs. He been dead for years.
