In the case that you lose your phone, the storage is hardware encrypted
    using your PIN.

I was so aggravated with that PIN/PW business on my phone I turned it
off. Every time I wanted to use it (even to answer it) I had to go through
all that. No thanks. When I want to use it, I expect to be able to do that right then.

Even if someone found it they could never get your data without
your pin/password because the seed for the encryption is created using your PIN and even the phone itself d

You got cut off as well.
I learned some time ago to try and keep my replies to four or five
    lines.
I do tend to run on at times and cut those up a bit. :)

Well, the problem is if you loose the phone anyone who finds it can "use it" as well. But I'm sure you know this. :-)

    Oh I'm aware of that.
I use TracFone so have "limited" time. And one phone call or website
    visit and its turned off.
And I don't buy the best and the most expensive. Mine is a run of the
mill iPhone SE several years old. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles.
Years ago I went to a St Patrick's day street party. Several streets in town were closed off and lots of events, people milling around, etc.
When I got home I couldn't find my wallet. I thought I had had my
    pocket picked.
One call to the bank and my cards were stopped.
The next morning dressing for work I found my wallet in my work pants.
I hadn't taken my wallet at all. Boy, did I feel dumb. But better safe
    than sorry.
