I haven't played the Arkansas Lottery in several months.

I played the WV lottery once when it started in the '80s and tickets were only 50 cents each. I brought two, lost both times. I cut my loses and
    moved on.
There was some big mega million national lottery several years ago.
I was working a basketball game and another LT (I was mere peon officer
at the time) came around wanting everyone to go in on a pool. After a while the only way to get him to leave me alone was give him a couple of dollars.
In parking there was a police officer whose daughter was in the Girl
Scouts. Every year he came around bugging people to buy a box.
One year this newbie kept saying no. I told him to "just buy a box of
those stale cookies" and Jack would leave him alone. He did and Jack did. :)
I said it was an extortion racket Jack had. Give him a couple of bucks
and he would leave you alone. :)

So many who "hit it big" pay a big price in so many ways, afterwards.

There are a too many stories to mention of people hitting it big, blowing
it and back where they started, or worse, a year or two later.
I am reminded of the old joke.
Every night this man prayed: Oh Lord, you know I have needs. My wife is sick, the kids need clothes, I lost my job (and on and on) and asked "Please let me win the lottery".
This went on every night for weeks.
Finally one night after praying the man heard a deep, thundering voice
    say "BUY A TICKET!" :)

Never mind those who can least afford it, spend everything they have on tickets.

Playing the lottery is merely another tax, and one people gladly pay.
When the WV lottery started there were all these claims it would solve
    all the state's financial problems.
It didn't. The money seems to go down some rat hole, never to be seen
    again.

    Joe,

    It is rare I play it...as noted, it's a $5 a month max...and mainly
    for S's and G's. :P

There was some big mega million national lottery several years ago.

There still is...and Arkansas is part of it.

There are a too many stories to mention of people hitting it big, blowing
it and back where they started, or worse, a year or two later.

Exactly. I updated a bulletin on the BBS: "Fraud: You Win To Lose".

    LOL!!

Playing the lottery is merely another tax, and one people gladly pay.

As P.T. Barnum said, "there's a sucker born every minute".

    all the state's financial problems.

Likely under the table, and into the elites pockets.
