• Circle K Gasoline

From Ed Vance@1:2320/105 to All on Wed Oct 30 11:06:00 2019
    Howdy!,

I buy Gas at a Shell Gas Station when I have enought Kroger Gas Points
to get the Ten Cent Discount.

The Price on the Electric Sign at a Circle K Gas Stations changed SIx Cents from Credit to another word (I think called EZ-Pay) that was Six Cents less.

I went inside to pre-pay for some Gasoline and walked out to the car to
put the Gas in the tank.

I noticed the Price on the Pump was the higher Credit price, so I went
back inside and told someone about the higher price and was told Circle K
has their own refinery now and they don't sell Shell Gasoline anymore.

To get the lower price I have to use a Circle K EZ-Pay Card and then asked
Me if I wanted to buy one.

I said No, and asked for the money back because I didn't want to pay the
same price that people who buy their Gas with a Credit Card is charged.

I remember years ago being told by someone at a store that the Charge Card Companies give the store Six Cents less than the price on the receipt when
they turned the receipts in to the Company(s).

That Station used to be a Shell Gas Staton and still has the same color markings as the Shell Stations use, Mostly Yellow and a Red Stripe.

In My area some of the Marathon Gas Stations have a Circle K Sign, those Stations are colored Blue though.

While I don't have a car, I do have a Speedway card, where you can get
points to redeem for little things.
One also saves a few pennies at the pump on gas.
I used that when working and filling the golf cart and kept the points.
    :)
On my trip the price of gas was in the $2.45 to $2.75 range depending on where in the country I was, which was also based on various taxes, etc.
When I was in Colorado I filled up (topped off each morning) it was like $2.50 a gallon. I drove through NM and into Texas and the first station I
saw gas was $3.79 a gallon!
I was in the west Texas oil fields, pumps all over the place, and the
highest price I had seen anywhere.
But then it was at a cross roads and the only gas station (or anything
else) in literally 100 miles, so they could charge whatever they wanted.
Once back in civilization it was back to normal.
That Chevy Cruse I was driving at the time was a 4 cylinder, with a
turbo, and got over 40 mph on the highway. I could drive all day on a half tank.
The Nissan Versa that replaced it averaged the same.

When I started driving in 1965 I bought gas at a Pan-Am Station.
Later they became AMOCO, later the name changed to Standard.
I don't know if Standard is around anymore.

There have been so many mergers, buyouts, etc over the years I have no
idea either. Of course not having a car I don't pay that much attention.
We had Ashland Oil here, which evolved into Super America when it brought out, I think Pure Oil, and now its Speedway.
I know Esso, part of Standard Oil, has been Exxon for many years.
    I recall Philips 66, gone.
    Signal Oil, gone.
    Sinclair, gone.
There are others I can't recall off hand.

Standard Oil got broken up at some point. There are still some Esso
stations around in places, I think, which were named as such because it
    sounds like "S-O" (Standard Oil).

I think some of those are gone from some areas but not others. IIRC, if Sinclair is the one with the dinosaur on the sign, I think I saw some of
those on a recent trip. I think that Philips 66 might still be around in certain regions also.

Exxon pulled out of our area, but apparently are still around in others (at least I think I still see ads on TV for them!).

I recall seeing one somewhere out west, NM or TX, but I was caught in
traffic and paying more attention to that then looking around. Just saw the large green dinosaur off the road.
There was a town that had a red Pegasus horse that Mobile had a logo for years. It was on a non-gas station related building.
I was in a car museum that had lots of gas station logos and such on the walls, including a few Burma Shave signs.

Ah... so you didn't check that part out while you were there, since
things had changed... that would have been my next question to them... :)

I was just suprised to learn about their EZ-Pay program was for people
who pre-paid for Gas through buying a card way before needing to put
    Gas in their car.

So it works by having you essentially load a card with money so that you
can just swipe it at the pump when you get gas....?

To get the lower price I have to use a Circle K EZ-Pay Card and then
asked Me if I wanted to buy one.

Not much of a discount, to be sure... :)

I don't know for sure if the six cent difference still applies... it
might be a percentage of the bill....

Esso, then later Exxon.... But there are Esso stations still in Canada...
