I would prefer a car since I could stop and go as I pleased, no time

And, the birds look for our freshly washed cars to "dump on". <G>

I'm reminded of a Ziggy cartoon from years ago.
He's washing his car and on a tree branch above him are two birds. One
says to the other, No, let's wait till he finishes waxing it.

And, you really have to have the money to purchase, let alone live and
    travel, in one of them.

An aunt of mine (well, actually my mother's SIL from her first marriage*) traveled all over Mexico by herself in the early '50s. She had a '50 Nash (with the front seats that folded down into a bed) and a small travel trailer with a stove, ice box, etc.
(*Even through my mothers first marriage ended in divorce she and they remained friends all their lives. Her MIL was the only grandmother I knew and was closer to her SIL than than own sisters.)
((She traded that big Nash in the early '60s for a Corvair. She went
from extreme to the other and could have easily put that Corvair in the trunk as a spare for the Nash)))
