• WinPoint & IPv6

From Michiel van der Vlist@2:280/5555 to All on Thu Mar 17 12:52:48 2022
    Hello All,

WinPoint now supports IPv6. It does not have fall back to IPv4 yet and it only calls out via IPv6 if there is an AAAA record but no A record in the host name. WInpoint points can now have an IPv6 only Boss.

My WinPoint point 2:280/5555.10 now polls me via IPv6. ( At host name fido6.vlist.eu )

    Cheers, Michiel

As already pointed out, the current release should follow the OS preference.

    Hello Tony,

On Wednesday March 23 2022 14:51, you wrote to me:

Conclusion: Winpoint follows the OS if the OS is configured to
do IPv6 first if the host is reachable by IPv6 and IPv4. If only
one of the two is available WinPoint uses that. All as expected.

Cool, which means it would use IPv6 by default here, since all my
systems are configured to try IPv6 first, before falling back to IPv4. Nice to see more IPv6 support in BBS related software.

Sure. Trying IPv6 first is what is more or less the default in almost all cases. Winpoint does not yet support fall back to IPv4 but that will be a matter of time.

    Cheers, Michiel
