• Build you own?

Does anyone here build thier own guitar? I just tried my first. I have almost no woodworking skills, but I got one together, oversanded in a few places, and used a stain.
I upgraded with parts from GuitarFetish. I sounds great once I figured out how to set action and pickup heigth. I built a Custum Les Real. :)
The next one will be much better for sure.

A friend of mine used to build his own. He was talented at building them
and playing them. The first one he built, I used to call it a
"Streetocaster" because his last name was Street. I think he was OK with
that. He built a few others, IIRC some to sell and maybe some to keep.

Coolness. I just wanted to try and make one. My woodworking skills are definitely suspect. I was fun. May try again.

Built a few electrics. The first one in the 80's turned out the best and its still a solid player and it was an original design completely from scratch. These days there are so many nice kits.

I just failed putting a pantry shelf up. I have thought about it but maybe
    it's not for me.

Oh, man. Sorry to hear that. I have basick carpentry skills. I can build a deck and so forth. It's not top nothch, but it's good enough for me.

It was the sanding and getting colors right for staining and such. I didn't realize how thin the maple skins are on these guitars.

I might have a go, but if I'm building one, then I want to do it from
scratch. Build the neck, fret board, body, etc. I'm obviously going to need special tools to drill a hole for the truss rod, probably a router to cut
into the body, and various planes to get the contours right. I'm a fan on
the strat shape so that's what I'd likely build. I've seen some templates
you can buy on the net. Maybe...one day.
