• Ripe has run out of ipv4 addresses

    Hello, All.

    https://www.ripe.net/publications/news/about-ripe-ncc-and-ripe/the-ripe-ncc-has -run-out-of-ipv4-addresses

    Ugly news. :(

Maybe the US may free some /8 both from govern and from privates.

    Waiting for IPV6 at home...

The present rate for an IPv4 address is EUR 15 - EUR 20. No one who has a /8 to spare is just going to give away...

    Waiting for IPV6 at home...

Don't wait for your ISP, get a tunnel. From he.net or other..

So what is the Ipv6 address of your binkd server? ;-)

I've got 2 /64, one for the LAB and another for Home, now I have to configure the network PEs and CPEs. :)

Now the hardest part, find the time to start to configure the newtwork appliances and the servers... ;)

Great! I am sure you will find your way. There is always the IPv6 echo to ask the gurus and the sages... ;-)

For binkd there is very little to configure. If it is the only application listening on port 24554 on that computer and your LAN is IPv6 capable, binkd (>v1.0) will do IPv6 out of the box.

    Cheers, Michiel

I've been using a HE tunnel for some time on my Linux box.

I have a VPS (well, several) but in this case, it's a DNS server for my domains, one of which allows me to dynamically change the IP of my home internet IP which is somewhat static until I reboot my router.

I then have a HE tunnel that I connect to on my Linux box, configured to
start at boot time, and a script that connects to my router to check the IP.
If it changed since last check then update the DNS and the IP using the HE
    API.

Then I run radvd on the Linux server to serve ipv6 addresses to my LAN
devices. These are generally configured to prefer ipv4 over ipv6 due to the delay in tunnelling.

Overall it works well, however I'm thinking of getting a router that'll run openwrt so I don't have to rely on my server for these services.

Ah, so you ar e a candidate for the Fidonet IPv6 club.

I have a VPS (well, several) but in this case, it's a DNS server for
my domains, one of which allows me to dynamically change the IP of my
home internet IP which is somewhat static until I reboot my router.

    So let's see....

You advertise a hostname of ipv4.endofthelinebbs.com in the nodelist. After sone trial and error I discovered endofthelinebbs.com was the hostname with both an AAAA and an A record. So here wo go:

    + 00:28 [2192] call to 1:124/5016@fidonet

    + 00:28 [2192] addr: 1:124/5016@fidonet

    Great!

Feel free to try the other way and make an IPv6 connect to my system.

    Cheers, Michiel

    Michael,

I tried to contact you but have received no response. Are you still alive and interested in listing my board?

You have been listed in the ipv6 list for some time. You are #85. I have updated your entry to reflect that you now advertise an IPv6 address in the nodelist.
