Just a heads up that 3:770/1 will shortly be migrating away from BinkD + FastEcho as it's mailer and tosser respectively. In the coming days I plan to cut the HUB over to one powered by Mystic BBS. This should assist with some dupe loop niggles created because FE strips inter-zonal SEEN-BY kludges.
    Mystic does not do that.

I'll post again when the cut over has been completed.

    Best, Paul

If changes are needed in Mystic, James is always open to that.

We are looking at a couple of things now. If you have info or input about the way Mystic interacts with the net we are listening.

As you can see I am getting dupes to 770/100 from 770/1 after the cut over.

I plan to restore to FastEcho and revisit my plans. James is not active at
the moment otherwise I would work with him to debug. But for now I'll start looking at a Plan B.

I have but honestly the lack of JAM support for Netmail is a key
reason I have not opted to use it.

i thought it could import netmails into the BBS into a JAM area?

generally speaking, in traditional FTN installations, there are at least two netmail areas... one for the mailer and tosser and one for the BBS... the tosser is the interface between them... if not the tosser, then a tool like netmgr or maybe rntrack...

the above became apparent to be when i was running remoteaccess... it only supported the HMB at that time... it never supported MSG so there was no way to share the ""main"" netmail area so users could get and send netmail... later on JAM was added but there was still the problem of not being able to share the ""main"" netmail area in MSG format... the mailer and the tosser effectively communicate via that area and the BBS netmail area is a seperate entity altogether...

once that clicked in my mind, everything was golden... it even lead me to understanding that one could set up seperate netmail areas for each network their system was in, too... that helped lessen the training of the users using netmail so they didn't have to understand FTN addresses and choose the proper one for the network they were writing netmail in...

I think you'll find that much of Australia does not have "sewers" as you know them. Where I live there are no sewers, no piped water.

The unburied power and phone lines date back to before easy burying technology was available. They have continued to maintain the poles and lines since inception as to bury them all now would incur an expense that no-one seems to want to bear.

Much of Australia's road infrastructure is rather shitty too - the country is simply too large for the meagre population to afford better stuff.

Can you drive for 250km along any major highway in Belgium and see no signs of human presence (other than the road you're travelling on)?

Oh, bummer. I really liked Melbourne, in all of my travels. (It was my favourite town till I found Perth.) There again, I did Melbourne during a -lost- long weekend...

A group of guys from work took me along as a fourth for a 'sports' weekend, on a train trip sampling all the beers from three states to get there. (I wasn't a beer drinker then and still don't care for it, 50 years later.) The lost weekend was a persistent pissy blur.

Here, you can't even drive to all state without getting wet (though the Melbourne to Devonport ferry is funded as a 400km stretch of the "national highway", meaning really good subsidies for putting your car on the ferry.

But going north or west, you can drive for _days_ at highway speeds without reaching the ocean. :)

From here, 2 hours south won't even get you to the coast (that's at least 30 minutes further). 2 hours roughly SE will get you just past the centre of Melbourne. 2 hours east and you're in the foothills below the ski resorts (another couple of hours at least to get to ski). 2 hours north will actually get you to another state (NSW) and in the middle of a featureless plain. 2 hours west and less than halfway to the western state border with South Australia. :)

And what is the population of Belgium who are paying to maintain/update that infrastructure of the country?

Actually that type of road-infrastructure is a European thing. There is a network of what is called E-highways which stems from a very early EU-decision in the 1950-ies to build a European-wide network for the long-distance transport of goods. It now looks like this ...

    https://tinyurl.com/uwddsbf

By staying on the same road you can drive from Lisbon (Portugal) to Malmo (Sweden) and be treated to some of the most wonderful traffic jams in the world.

As especially Belgium is heavy burdened by these roads I'm assuming there must be some kind of a cost-sharing situation between EU-states, but I'm unaware.

8 more days and that map changes.

Ah, well, the genre may have been invented in the US, but there certainly are European road movies. Probably they don't get much coverage in the US, or are rather "remade" for US viewers than dubbed or brought into the cinemas as original versions.
    Anyway, here are a few random examples from Germany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knockin%27_on_Heaven%27s_Door_(1997_film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_the_Cities https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Sharks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_July_(film) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_Wants_to_Sea https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/25_km/h https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_gegen_den_Rest_der_Welt

A German roadmovie named "25km/h" from 2018 or 2019 (cannot remember exactly) where the main characters used Mofas (top speed: 25km/h) for their trip.
