You bbs system should be doing that as it tosses new messages.
My tosser is doing it very well. I ask on behalf of a fellow sysop
that didn't have dupe checking enabled and got a bunch of old dupe
msgs that normally would have been discarded.
(I can think of some ways of doing it without such a tool, but would
not be useful for a BBS with users as lastread pointers would be
lost.)
That is a different and difficult problem to resolve and I don't have a answer.
