I've been speaking with Janis Kracht (1:261/38) a few minuts ago. Her system is having some serious problems at this time and it's effecting EchoMail and File flow to me to some extent. I have an alternate EchoMail feed that runs in tandem, so there is little effect in that respect, but file feed is rather "iffy" at the moment. She is putting in every effort possible to resole the problems and hopes to have it corrected soon.

My system is doing 'better'... (it did take me a few days to whip this new box into submission it seems)

IIRC Matthias was picking up here probably until recently... I'd have to check my logs to see if that's still the case.

Anyhow, things are looking up I think :)

    Take care,

You're one of my links and i've notived your offline phase. The impact was quite low here, but there was some, of course. We will survive...

I've received back some of my own mails from you, and as my dupechecker does not check my own mails, they were passed on. That's something i should work on. I know the reason and how to solve it. So you see, even a downtime has its benefits. :-D

It was ok sis, just a bit of a delay. Nothing lost.

Meantime, I've successfully transitioned to a new job as of 3 weeks ago. LOTS of learning curve but they are really happy with me already. I have a level of detail they are not used to and they are eating it up.

PS: Old job was moving to Millington TN and I was unwilling to move. This one is same level GS/Federal employee so no loss of retirement plan building.

So far, I am lucky in that respect... some changes to my scripts, etc. were necessary, but not so bad. Then just when I was feeling good about various changes, etc., we had a MOTHER of a thunder/lightening storm last night.. I don't remember such a violent one like last night in ages! We have well water here, not city/town water, and I swear it sounded like the water pump got hit last night.. Ron says he doesn't think it did, since the whole house would have shaken like h..., but geez it was an incredible storm last night. Me and Sophie, our yellow-lab/mutt mix, cuddled up with every hit last night.

A move like that can be rough on everyone in one's family, so I'm glad you were able to avoid it... and it's good that your retirement plan, etc. wasn't affected. I think if I was eh, 20 yrs. old it might not be so bad but
hahaha.. I'm well past that <grin>

Yeah, moving is a pain. After 26 years Navy, I moved A LOT.

Bad thunderstorm eh? I always worry about Hurricanes. We are increasingly a flood zone in this coastal area. Too much growth and not enough spent on infrastructure upgrades. Sewers are nearing 100 years old in most places and pipes too thin to handle it.

On the systems, mine seems to stay stable, knock on wood. It's getting harder to get XP systems and my BRE requires it. It can run as a single BBS with WIN, but not in league mode with any stability.

So elect someone who will take car of it... And raise taxes to pay for it... Or won't that ever happen and you are doomed to drown in your own shit? ;-)

When you get to the point where you actually have to, a virtual machine running XP on whatever systems you have might do the trick. I did that for about 18 months before moving everything back to dedicated machines. Worked pretty well.

    Hi Carol

I've got a game like that, and I run it in a xp VM, on my win 10 system.
SO far so good. It's my trade wars game server. I've been running it on
a VM for over a year. Before it's over, we all will be running VM's as
the operating systems get more complex and won't run our old 16 bit
programs. The big boys are slowly putting us old sysops out of business
