• My radio station

From Björn Felten@2:203/2 to All on Sat Jun 5 00:52:02 2021
I'm still not sure why it sometimes work, but sometimes not.

When you click on http://eljaco.se:8000/ you usually seem to get a web site about my radio station, and when you click on "Listen" you either get a listen.pls file downloaded or your media player starts playing immediately. It usually seems to work if you have Winamp installed, but it *should* work with other media players too. At least that's the theory.

Can I please bother you with trying the link above and tell me what happens. I'm still -- after more than ten years -- not sure why it sometimes works and sometimes not. :(

    Hello Bj”rn!

I tried this with Firefox 88 on Win 10, and I get a file download dialog for the listen.pls file.

I do have Winamp 5.666 installed, and the dialog suggests that it should be opened with Winamp (there is of course also an option to select this as a "permanent" choice).

Tried reloading the page, clicking the link again etc., but always got the file download dialog. So it seems to be consistent, at least for the moment. :-)

One would think that the only way for it to behave differently between different runs would be the server emitting a different MIME type (but I get "content-type: audio/x-scpls" all the time here). Or something messing with the file types ("ftype" for "Winamp.PlayList") and/or associations ("assoc" for ".pls"). Or something with that "permanent" choice...

    Best regards
    Bj”rn

    Interesting.

Maybe I need to update my own Winamp (5.581) or maybe even the SHOUTcast server. It never even occurred to me. DUH! Thanks!

    You're very welcome!

Another possibility would be some other device/software "mangling" the Content-Type header of the response. Some "Internet security" software package or similar? Those tend to get in the way of almost anything. :-D

    Best regards

I consistenly get a .pls file download, but I don't have winamp installed and clementine doesn't like .pls files. If I add the http://eljaco.se:8000/ as a stream source in clementine it picks up the connection fine with no bellyaching and plays the stream.

Ah yes, that seems to be what usually happens. Just clicking on the link gives you a default media player that does not work, but adding the URL to a more potent media player works. I have tested with VLC on an iPad and two different Android cell phones and it works.

    Thanks for your input!
