I am reading FSC-0056 and I am not clear on what the actual difference between EMSI and IEMSI is.

Is EMSI for use between frontend mailers and IEMSI for BBS logons ?

Yes, Frontdoor's terminal is IEMSI capable. It only works with other IEMSI BBSs like RemoteAccess.

So what is the difference between EMSI and I-EMSI ? (apparently the "I" stands for "interactive" but what is it used for ?)

It will log you in automatically when it connects if the dialer has the info available and the remote end is IEMSI capable.

There may have been other features to it too, but I haven't used it in so long I have forgotten. It was quite handy.

    correct...

What clients support IEMSI? Telegard supports it but I've never tried it out.

    Renegade supports IEMSI.

I don't remember Telegard supporting IEMSI but maybe I have forgotten.

There was a mex around that I used for a time to add IEMSI support to Maximus.

    Renegade supports IEMSI.

I guess I meant terminals. I remember looking in Telix for IEMSI support
back in the day but couldn't find it. A quick google search shows that Terminate supported it.

I might have to load that up in DOSBOX and see if I can play with it.

Ahhh... I still use Mtelnet/Mtel32... pretty sure it has it.

    K. IEMSI logins Yes

There's also an option under new uers to "IEMSI New Users".

It does, and I don't remember that but it was a while ago now.. ;)

I'm going to download Terminate and play with it in DOSBOX, I never used it back in the day.

I used Terminate quite a bit back in the day. Terminate also has a great little point setup inside there, similar to the FD mail reader. It had a dial-up mailer but I think it had a BSO outbound, so you might be able to use it with something like binkd.

FrontDoor's Terminal and Communique are 2 that come to mind; I'm sure there are others as well.
