    There's a cople of things going on. Not all echomail readers use the Subj: field for message threading. A lot of Fido readers have been using a system of ^MSGID &
    ^REPLY kludes for their message processors to link notes within threads, for many many years.

    Since your notes don't use the ^REPLY kludge then other readers can't see that your note links to an earlier one, and therefore it stands alone (as a new 'topic', as you say). That's what the other 'person' means. In fact my reader sees this latest note of yours as the start of a new thread.

    The two kludges ^MSGID & ^REPLY are part of the same FTSC 'standard', in that they were once commonly used in the past, and intended to be used together. Are you able to implement a ^REPLY kludge, where appropriate?

    the subjects are identical ... but as Paul mentions:
    the MsgId's are different & there is no ReplyID present in your both test mails.
