    Stupid question coming..

Why would anyone need to turn TZUTC off and on? ..or, is this an exclusive/temporary developer feature to make sure things don't break going up the chain and so that you can continue to use the same program with TZUTC=off in 5.0.41 without having to keep swapping the previous version? If so, nice!

I appreciated such a facility with my Win32 JamNNTPd server which ran on my dear-departed Win98se node. Without fail, every summer it would indicate DST incorrectly. We don't 'do' DST in this locale; never have, besides stoopid trials. So I turned its TZUTC=off permanently. Sweet. :)

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Ah.. then maybe a similar senario is considered in the next OpenXP.

But couldn't you have just adjusted to the correct time in the Win98se? I think there was a little TZ fix program for Win98 available.

I never ran Win98se for BBS operations. I started with OS/2 2.1 and used the built-in Win support for launching win-specific bbs programs. I never seemed to have a problem honouring ZMH that I recall.

But speaking of switching between DST and standard time, it's like sudden jet-lag with no opportunity to compensate; life continues on the same numbers of the clock, on schedule, while the body still "feels" like operating on the old schedule.

Nor did I, with anything else on the BBS: GoldEd, SemPoint, BinkleyTerm, Mystic, binkD, Argus or Radius. Windows itself was fine. (I was not aware of the fix.)

Only JamNNTPd had a problem... and a fix. :)

Although the TZUTC kludge is not new, it's a newly implemented feature
in OpenXP. The developer decided to give the user the option to enable/disable the feature at their own discretion. Now why anyone
would want to disable the TZUTC kludge eludes me?
