From Chuckster Stephenson@1:226/16 to All on Thu Nov 7 16:22:14 2019
I was wondering how a Front End/Mailer handles Netmail with the 'direct' flag in this day in age. What if I send a netmail to a point off of a BBS that' in the nodelist, does the mailer call the BBS, or does it just hold it?

    Thanks

That is the senders choice when the message is saved. You can crash it directly to the node, hold it for pickup, or route it to the destination.

In the case of a point you have choices. You can hold it for the point to pick up or you can route/direct it to the boss node.

If the point has a mailer listening and you know the mailer info you can drop it off there directly.

If memory serves, Direct means "don't route it and send it the next time you normally connect to the destination", and Crash means to send it now.

I'm pretty sure most mailers ignore points and host-route the mail to
    the boss node.

    Can anyone confirm?

Yes, that's how my setup works although today everything is crashed for
    the most part.

I used MBSE at one time and it does host routing by default.

In my current setup stuff is sent to nodes that I trust to move stuff in
the right direction. I have a secure session in all those cases.

I have a point setup here (not mine) and stuff that arrives for that
point is crashed to that point.

I don't know if it is perfect and I'll always make changes when needed
but I have had good results with my setup.

That's what I figured they did, follow the 'old' mailer rules. Wasn't sure though
